X2, Personally I'd look at 3.42's or 3.55's first. But then again I loved the 3.23 ratio I had on my 99 that was an auto. I'd also recommend leaving the gears alone and getting a converter instead. And, you can do that yourself to, if you need help, I'm sure somebody here would help.

X2 if you don't get the teeth lined up to spec you can destroy your rear end! If you have not done this process before I would not suggest trying it. Also, used gears can be in rough shape sometimes especially since the only people who would choose to upgrade their rear end gears most likely will be racing the car or at least driving more aggressively. Oh and make sure you change the gear lube when if you do it.

Considering that when you pull the cover the oil/gear lube is going to come out no matter what I would really hope nobody would put the old used lube back in after changing the gears. That would just be foolish and asking for trouble.

As with any and all used parts, do a thorough inspection before you buy and with gears make sure the ring & pinion gear are the matching set as they should be worn in together. So long as there isn't cracks or visible stress they should be fine. Also, new or used, get a new pinion bearing pressed on, that way you know its good. I'd also recommend to anyone that has no experience to get help from someone that knows what they are doing or get a book, better yet both if possible.

x3...a 3.23 gear is a good all around gear. I personally wouldn't waste the money on gears at all.

Ring and Pinion, gasket (or RTV), gear oil, and it would be smart to go bearings while you have it apart. Gonna need a shim pack too...
