  • My interior pillar pod/gauge project. Need opinions!

I bought some gauges and a pillar pod for the Camaro.

Glowshift and anyone iirc doesn't make a full 93-96 camaro hardtop pillar pod.

    So, I made my own.

Prepped the 2 parts. I bought a 97-02 ttop pillar pod.

Clamped after the 2 part epoxy was applied

Roughed out with some 2 part plastic repair

    Sanded down the first coat.

Put another coat on and sanded it down

    Put some glaze on

    Sanded

Applied another coat of glaze to fill in some pin holes.

    Primer

Now it's awaiting to be sanded and painted.

I'm wondering if I should apply some SEM texture or if i should sand it smooth and paint it gloss black to match the door bezels.

    The gauges should look nice

Will go well with my new cluster and led upgrade

I definately would like to pick some extra pillars and pods up and make some on the side

    Just thought I'd share.

That looks NICE. One thing I dislike about pods, and even my own, is the way they are separate from the pillar. By molding it in like that I think it looks fantastic. You do excellent work.

^^ x2 biggest reason I don't have pillar gauges yet.

Only issue I see with this approach is matching the grain with the rest of the trim.....otherwise looks great.

I'd do the SEM texture & do both pillars to make sure they match. I've noticed the interior colors in these cars don't match perfectly even from the factory, so even if the color or texture is slightly off really I doubt anyone would notice.

Brent, have you seen the Autometer full pillar? I used one in my 94 and it looked perfect. I used windshield adhesive to bond it to the factory pillar and painted it the factory interior color. It looked completely factory. Sucks that they don't offer something like this for 93-96 Camaros OR hardtops.

Honestly I've never been a fan of the different colored door bezels. If it was me I'd get everything to look as close to stock as possible.

Looks great, I say take the time smooth it all out, makes for a better finish.

                        Thanks everyone.

I think I need to take in a scrap interior piece and mess around with the texture coating some more. I can always sand them smooth and gloss black them and if I want later I can scuff them up and texture them (them as in I'll be doing both sides)

If you do textured are you gonna be gloss? I say and do the smooth specially if your going with a high gloss, with just appear and show better quality.

Look at my 2nd or 3rd to last pic, I sprayed my interior door bezels gloss black.

Either way, I'll sand the part smooth then texture over it (or gloss) I won't leave it as is and texture over it. It will get any of the bodywork flaws out after I sand it.
