  • Good Body Shop

Does anyone know of a good body shop in Oakland County? I am looking to get left & right floor pans welded in, seam sealer, and POR 15. I also want to get any rust thats on the car off and prepped for paint before the weather breaks. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Th drivers side has a nice size whole in it, havnt saw the passenger side, but a F-body memeber whose pretty good with body work looked at the car and said I should get both sides replaced.

are you planning on keeping the car for a long time ? if so it would be a good idea to strip the car and get it blasted (with glass beads) its cheaper then sand believe it or not. That way you can find all the rusted issues and fix them at once. I would think floor plans are around 300 a side to buy repops.

I would check with a handful of shops for prices, you can probably save yourself some labor cost if you gut the interior yourself

Thanks for the respons, stripping it down to. Bare metal is a great idea. I plan on keeping this car and giving it to my son. Will having down to bare metal expose it to rust if it isn't painted soon?

mine is sitting in my garage all winter, not covered and down to bare metal, it will get a lil surface rust it you let it sit too long, but nothing that a lil da sander wont take care of in a quick minute. If your gonna let it sit longer then a couple months, I say put a couple coats of primer on it .

you could ask curt if he has any of the pieces for your floor if he decides hes gonna start cutting stuff apart. muh much cheaper plus you know its meant to fit because well it already was a floor pan. to find ALL the rust youd have to strip the car to nothing like mine, because you can find rust in the wierdest places trust me on that. and like greg said da sander will take care of surface rust no problem.

plus to bead blast it you have to strip the car correct? plus the blasting, and hauling it from place to place. it all adds up

Thanks for the advice, I already have the replacement floor pans from Year One, direct replacements. After the great advice you guys have given me I oplan to get it stripped to the bare metal and thanks for the sanding tips for the surface rust. Just hope it doesn't cost me 5000 to get this done without even getting it painted.

I have no experience and no garage to do it in. Probably save me so much money I bet.
