Can you argue that it's "revolutionary"? Perhaps. Just because it's "new" and "different" doesn't mean it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

well i contacted duplicolor not too long ago, and then said epoxy would work best if you dont want it to flake off. im not a paint expert but it just doesnt sound right. ill end up sanding the crap out of it, i think a self etching primer would work but id have to find one that wouldnt negatively react with the epoxy.91 Trans am, 305, Lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, headers, SLP LM2, SW chassis, massive panhard, lowered, modded TPI, Tuned, 4.10s, Lincoln locked

Chemically stripped is best...not sure on cost.
Tyler, what are you wanting to paint?sigpic

Is there a way you can safely do this on part of the wheel and not all of it? Would duct tape work for masking? I'd like these 35th wheels to come out right.Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostGrit blast with aluminum oxide then paint.-Joel

Ok I have done this painting them is not the best way to do this but if you are going to do so you need to etch that Chrome good so I would get a fine sand and blast them don't try and remove the chrome just etch them make them dull . Most chrome aluminum wheel will pit badly then a good apoxy will stick well then a good paint will be best. Now a better way would be to litely blast as I said earlyer then have them powder coated I've done this and it worked very well . If your rich have the chrome chemicaly removed that's. Best. Or new wheelssigpic1997 firehawk # 115 6 speed. Its just a little ole LT1

when you say fine sand what grit are you referring to ? cause to me "fine" or "finish" sand paper is 1000 to 6000 grit. which is not what you want to use to prep any type of surface for primary paint or clear.Originally posted by 97firehawk View PostOk I have done this painting them is not the best way to do this but if you are going to do so you need to etch that Chrome good so I would get a fine sand and blast them don't try and remove the chrome just etch them make them dull . Yep, there is special masking tape for this purpose, its made from PVC. Duct tape could work but it will not last nearly as long as the good stuff. Alot depends on what grit size and pressure you use. Aluminum oxide generates heat and the heat is what kills the masking.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostIs there a way you can safely do this on part of the wheel and not all of it? Also, don't ever use straight sand..the silica is very harmful to your health.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56
