Ben just got the brake drum off. . . We realized the parking brake was set. . . lol

Ben got bored waiting for the paint to dry on the drums, so he cleaned the hell out of the inside and outside of his wheels. . .

Ben also used some rust converter primer on various rusty metal components in the rear suspension. . . Looks better than rust!


Ben finally finished his drums!!! Woohoo!!!! 3 hours later!!!


I only took 20 minutes to finish mine. . . But they look like crap, IMO. The can said Orange, not POS Red. . . lol

I noticed 2 things from that post:

1) Its amazing how similar 4th and 3rd gens are as far as the chassis goes. The whole rear suspension and inner fenderwells are all exactly the same.

2) Your quarter panel is totally rotted out!

It's not that bad. . . the quarter just needs a patch panel in front of the wheel, and the back is all chipped from rocks and crap. The inside wheelwell is just really dirty. . . I'll detail it and post up some pics.

It was kind of funny. Nick was making fun of me for taking so long and sanding the rust off first. But when his mom saw them she knew he had not cleaned them first. LOL. Yeah its not too bad once you get into it.

If you are interested here is a list of required items:

Sand Paper - High Grit
Wire Brush - Optional -Good idea non the less
Rust Converter Spray or Brush on - Turns rust to black primer
High Temp Engine or Calipre paint
High Temp Clear Coat
Anti-Seize - To make sure lugs come of easily next time
Rubber Mallet - If the drum is rusted stuck
Jack Stands
Jack
Some good work tunes and a lot of elbow grease!!!

In total I spent about $40 for paint, Lubricants, Rust Converter, and Clear Coat for two cars, Not too shabby. Now we just have to get some time to work on the fronts. I'll post a list for that one too. I know we'll need C-clamps to get the calipers off.

The guy screwed me on the deal and did not send me my center caps. I found some but the guy wants $200 for 4 x center caps for the 18" Z06 in polished finish. So add the $200 + the $450 for tires > Whats in my wallet. I'll get them on. It's just taking a while. They will look *****in' won't they?

Okay guys, we fixed that crap. I had hoped to get our calipers painted but we ran out of time. At least we cleaned that crap paint off Nick's drums and sanded them (off the car of course). Looks much cleaner now and I like the new choice of color...

The old color, notice the paint is not even remotely like the cap...


Did a little cleanup inside the drum first... Look at that corrosion and build up...
