  • I don't have any experience with fiberglass molding or anything like that. . . How hard would it be to do? I can't afford it right now, but maybe I can scrape up the money later on, after I finish the hood and before I paint it. . . Anyone want to contribute? lol

    • The mold can be made after the hood is painted. If you were able to graft those scoops onto an existing hood, you have the skills to make a mold. See my other thread on the making of a fiberglass hood to get an idea and feel free to ask questions................

About how much cash are we talking about to make the mold and everything? I'm flat broke right now, the formy needs a tuneup, oil change, and new brake pads and rotors, so it's not going to be for quite a while. . . Also, considering that I did use a GM hood to hack apart to make this one, would that create any sort of legal problems?

        • Resin and fiberglass mat will be your most expensive materials, I had about 300 bucks worth of resin in my mold, not sure about the fiberglass mat, we bought a roll of that for other projects, then some plywood and 2X4's for the frame. I wouls say ball park 400-500 bucks.
And I doubt there would be any legal issues you changed the hood considerably.......

I doubt it, as you essentially used two different hoods to make yours.

It's a unique property at this point.

            • How much is a reasonable price to charge for the hood? I really didn't want to market it or anything, because the second it is installed on another car, it stops being unique to my car only. . . But I can also see that I have created a desireable product, and I don't want to hold out on my F-Body brothers. . . Hell, I'm even considering making my own Firebird Cowl hood now . . . I know I have the ability to. . .

              • check places like US Body Source and other companies that sell hoods, get an idea from there, also you have to figure out what you have into materials to lay up a hood. The big companies get the supplies by the truck load, much cheaper for them.
As for the unique thing, you will still know that they are sporting one of your hoods!

                • Quality = $$$

A quality formed hood with some quality gelcoat work...500$ each?

                  800$?

Depends on how much work you put into it.

                    • On Ebay glass hoods go for anywhere from $400-700 depending on the style.
