Nick's Custom Hood!

The last couple of pice of the hood are the way it sits now, I'm stuck at work until 8, but I'm going to try to sand it down and get another coat of bondo on. Tomorrow it's going to see primer, assuming I don't get stuck picking up another shift for anyone. I'm having a hard time getting my Sunday afternoon shift covered for my trip to Woodward, which really blows. . . I'll try to snap a couple of pics tomorrow for you guys.

Just out of curiosity, do the stock hood hinges/springs hold it in the up position?

No problems with the hinges, but i do need new hood shocks, the ones that were on it were straining very badly. It's very heavey right now, but once i cut the bottom of the stock hood out to make the ram air functinal, it should weigh a lot less.

Its not a matter of riveting the piece on there... the problem will be the diffential expansion and contraction rates of the plastic and metal. You will get cracks along the edges of that seam eventually. You need to use a highly elastic automotive paint to try to prevent the paint from spider webbing.

Got it. . . I already knew that, but I didn't think it was necessary since I'm not painting the hood for a while. What I'm trying to convey is that the work is done the right way, no steps left out. My dad helped me through the entire process, he's been an auto body repair and paint technician for over 35 years. He knows what he's talking about, and I've learned a thing or two working with him since a very young age. The hood will not crack, I assure you, at least not for a very long time. In the event that it does, I have the skills necessary to do all repairs. Come on, just quit with the "What If's" and enjoy the pics I posted! lol You guys are so pessimistic. . .

Finally got around to reading this thread. It's hard to tell what the final product will look like, but I think it looks good so far. Like Brian said, some feature or pinstripping to help the line flow will make it look nice. BTW, where's the donor hoold from or did I miss it earlier in the thread somewhere?

Donor hood is the Ram Air hood from a 2006 Pontiac Grand Am.

I'll get more pics. . . I actually found some spray bomb that matches my car perfectly, I'm going to use that to temporarily hide the damaged spots. . .

Yes, it will be at Woodward on Sunday. I don't care if it's finished or not, I've been looking forward to cruising Woodward on my birthday with my friends for weeks now, I'm not missing it. The hood is pretty much done as far as the overall shape goes, now we have to seal off the back of it, and finish the bondo, primer, and paint work. We fixed the corner that has been bent since I bought the car, and adjusted the fender a little bit, it's looking decent now. The front bumper was sanded down, maybe I can get tonight off of work and finish that up, I just have to go pick up some white paint for my basecoat on the bumper, fender, and hood, then I'll be all set. It's going to be spraypainted, but I've obtained some acceptable results with rattle cans before, so I think it will look decent. Hope to see you guys at Woodward!
