  • 97rs4life Engine Swap

Well I have finally got everything in for the engine swap that I have been working on, the final piece being the PAracing kmember. So last night the car was pushed into our shop and the work began.

A little background on the setup for those that have not been following it. I took the lower and upper intake along with the throttlebody from a Holden Commodore car and fitted them to our fbody engine as they use the same GM blocks. Benefits of these intakes are the taller height and runner design. Going to these intakes however does take some fabbing to make work, they are not a direct bolt on swap. First issue being their height which hits the cowl. So you have to come up with a way to make this work. I chose to have my kmember made to drop the engine .5" and then I added a small spacer between the kmember mounts as well. So I now have plenty of room between the cowl and engine. About 3/4" I would guess. Relocated some other items and fabbing up fuel lines are the other areas that need work to make the intakes bolt on.

The engine I am running is a race built NA shortblock from Abbott Racing Heads with forged pistons and such to handle a boatload of nitrous. I am also running their Stage 3 heads and I had them port my lower intake manifold to match the heads. I ported the throttlebody myself to open it up a bit as it is a little smaller than an fbody throttlebody. The cam is the abbott NA cam.

The car is set up for nitrous with two bottles feeding the engine. I am running two stages with both being dry for right now. In the future when I get some more money again I would like to run a 2 stage setup with the 2nd stage being direct ported. But that can wait.

Still have to clean up the wires and put on some more accessories, bolts, and brackets etc. Hopefully by next week the car will be running. Enough talk for now, here are the pics of the swap so far.

yep, im sure my bro will update but we got quite a bit done today, a lot of odds and ends wires hooked up, starter in, driveshaft in, autotrix passenger window rewire kit done, I cant wait for this baby to be fired up, just a few more bugs to work out.

Yea got a bunch of loose ends tied up today. Sean came over and my brother helped out as well. Still some more to go. Need to mount the FPR, MAP sensor, Nitrous solenoids, make some CAI piping, front swaybar, plastic panels underneath mounted up again, fill all the fluids, alignment, and some other small things. But it is really close now. Also need to work on my tune with hptuners and get it into a good baseline tune for initial startup.

A couple more evenings working on it and it will be ready again

been working on it some more. Joel stopped by today and checked out the progress. Was good to see him again.

Still a few more things to do before it gets fired up though.
