  • My buddy is looking for a thirdgen.

    Hey everyone,

My good friend recently sold his car so that he can buy an FBody. He is looking specifically for a thirdgen, here is his wish list:

    V8
    5-Speed
    No rot
    Decent Paint
    Straight Body
    Good Tires
    Good Brakes

Would really prefer something that he can purchase and drive away. His price range is around $2200. Can work up a little, especially for something in great shape. Thanks guys! Send them to me and I will pass them over to him.

We have been all over Craigslist, anything that is solid is sold. Figured we would try another outlet.

It's the only place you're going to find a decent rust free car on the cheap. Get on www.SearchTempest.com and find a warm destination.

Thanks, but going south is probably not an option.

It's a 4-5k car around here as well.

I'll keep an eye out, but you have to be ready to pounce in < a day notice. Another good way to find one is make friends with Brandon Bisek out of Paw Paw.

Not hard to put in an engine, but that T5 is likely in need of a rebuild.

You are probably right, I didn't factor in the rebuild.

Or at least some syncros, a reverse idler gear, and a proper reshim. Just over $200 for the basic kit. Master kit is just under $350 which includes all the bearings. Then add about $38 for the reverse idler (these are always chewed up because the lack of a reverse sycro) and I recommend the $50 billet cluster support plate.

Proper shimming is crucial on these T5's. If you don't have the tools then pay for the labor to keep it alive.

Going to be hard to fulfill that wish list with a budget of $2200 hes going to have to sacrifice somewhere.
