  • Looking for a winter vehicle

I am looking for a winter vehicle, im not looking too spend more than $2500. Not really sure what I am looking for, any recommendations for a car is welcome.

    My criteria
    Less than $2500
    Decent gas mileage
    Minimal rust, rust sucks
    id prefer a manual
and if its $2500 running good, If it needs some work obviously not looking to spend $2500, and another $1000 on parts.

I originally wanted a mazda 3, but my budget kept getting smaller, I was trying to buy a jeep grand Cherokee for cheap with a blown head gasket, then the guy never answered my phone calls when i went too look at it.

Let me know what you have, or find, I am located in Mason area.

This is just what I saw on the first page of the Lansing Craigslist. Didn't even make it to the ones posted 9/06. You'll find something easy in there.

I am not really looking for a smaller suv unless i find a good deal, the cost of fuel would hurt me but the thought of 4wd is a good one. A Saturn sl2 isnt my first choice, but if I dont find anything in the next few weeks, and it is still available, I will strongly consider it. I dont know, my budget is the largest driving factor(sucks being a college student), I need something affordable, but id also like something somewhat fun and decently reliable.

That Saturn would make a great winter car! I had a little Escort sport 4banger with a 5 speed and never got stuck

Id get an xj cherokee if i were in your position. Mine got 18-23 running around in the summer with the front driveshaft removed. 1-2 less with it in. Theyre mechanically sound and very fun vehicles imo. Small things can break frequently, but theyre small things... Plus you can tow 5000 pounds if you need to and itll go through just about anything. Only problem is finding a decent one in a sea of beaters.

My problem is my firebird has given me a taste in vehicles above my budget. Im trying to find something somewhat fun. I have looked for a jeep, but not seriously yet because of the gas mileage, but if I can find one cheap, it would be worth it. A Saturn would be ok, its just not something I think I would enjoy, that's the single reason for not purchasing one at this point. Although the time is coming to purchase one soon.

I appreciate the links you guys have sent, I am struggling to find something I want, and this is narrowing it down for me.

For me it could be the most boring car in the world, but if it has a manual trans i wont get bored driving it. But a saturn with an automatic id probably consider slitting my wrists

I will NOT buy a auto Saturn. Or any Auto older econbox. He has a manual Saturn, and I believe those are reliable, and fuel efficient, and certainly cheap, just not sure Im willing to settle on one yet.

$2500 will probably mean a little sacrifice somewhere whether it's fuel milage or cool points. Not having the car payment is where it's at though!

I've got an '92 cherokee I'm thinking about selling. Its got some issues left, but I have fixed some of the major ones (oil pump, rear main, starter, radiator, audio system).

Yep, I have a 5 speed manual Saturn that was pictured. I also have a Saturn that is an automatic. I drive a 5 speed manual Saturn everyday. Yes the manual makes it more fun to drive. What I like is going 2 weeks before I need to fill the 12 gallon gas tank.
