Looking for a 350 for my bird. Mostly just looking for prices right now. I found 1 in Tennessee for $150. It smokes but it's gonna be rebuilt anyway. I'd rather get 1 here in MI, be easier to pick it up. Also looking for a trans. Like I said mostly looking for prices right now. Hoping to get 1 on a stand this winter to rebuild it and do new heads + cam instail while it's out and apart.

Mark you should scout for a serpentine/centerbolt Tunedport motor if you wanna go FI (These are the 1pc main, roller cam blocks) or if you have your own intake, a later model roller truck block.
That would get you a nice roller block, with the front accessories.
Or perhaps just getting a pullout LT1 motor and not rebuilding it. You could probably get one of these with trans, harness and computer.Last edited by MattODoom; October 4th, 2006, 12:31 AM.

I was gonna go carb. Would be easier for the swap and I'm on a pretty low budget. and as for the 2 or 4 bolt blocks. I don't know what the difference is becuse I don't know much about engines. 1 of the reason's I'm doing a rebuild is so that I can learn and my father in law is gonna be helping me alot along with ppl he know's as well. I'm looking for a complete engine as well, not just the block. I dunno maybe I'm getting in over my head, but I really want a v8 in my bird. I know it would be simpliar to just by a diff bird with a v8 already in it, and probaly cheaper, but that takes all the fun out of it.

The main caps are the parts that hold the crank to the block. Most production blocks have two bolts that hold the caps to the block, some have 4. The 4bolts supposedly take more power. Youre not going to be pushing the limits of a 2bolt block though, and even if you did, you can convert 2 bolts into 4 bolts with aftermarket caps and machine work.Originally posted by SouLTeRRoRI was gonna go carb. in town here a running motor and good trans you rlooking at about 350-400 bucks for the pair if you want a older high millage but still running... then just go through and freshen up the motor.. thats complete though carb and acessories and all... what trans do you want? 3 speed auto 4 speed auto or maybe switch to manual... i can help you bust it out wouldnt take long and i can show you what i have learned so far... 350 is one of the best motors to learn on... even if you mess it up its cheep to replace compared to anything else...but i would say go with a running 350 high millage we can just swap out the rings and pistons just get a bore and hone job not looking at alot of cash maybe 500-600 for everything when all said and done with a fresh tune up and everything... what kinda cam and intake and all that are you looking for? ive got a bit of crap lying around here and there.. intake carb and such... nothing crazy just the edelbrock performer setup but you can have it.. and you can just pick up a touqer cam make it fun with that... that cams usually less than 100 bucks through jegs and runs nice that was my first setup...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. yeah im talking an older flat tappet carb motor good for power but not as reliable as a FI block like a TPI/LT/LS they tossed 350 sbc carbed versions in just about everything you can think of for over 20 years... truely a dime a dozen motor.. and the small block motor itself has been out sence the mid 50's there really wasnt any major changes to the SBC till 87 when they introduced it as a roller version with new style heads and intakes.. but anything up till then besides the basic size of the motor were all identical. 1,000's upon 1,000's of the same motor produced for years thats why its cheep...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. only ones I see are going for about a grand, if not more. Little bit more than I can afford right now, which is why I was thinking about doing a gradual buildup of the motor -- can do a $200 cam here, a $300 heads there, etc. Not all at once, which is what I can't afford.
