Need a 4l60e converter

I've never heard of installing a converter dry before!

Just got done talking to Mike and he confirmed what I said, and I quote "Install dry,So the splines and the input shaft dont hydrolock"..

I did a quick google search and everyone said install it with fluid BUT they said if you do install it dry to put 10 qts (or something like that) of fluid in and then hand crank the motor so it turns over and sucks in some of the fluid. It's the same concept as a new engine build - you need to prime the engine so the oil flows a bit before you go and fire it up.

Great info,I did just that half a qt of trans fluid before I installed it onto the trans..I believe this is a sign that I should have just stuck with the 6spd

Mike Ridings always recommends to install it dry. the converter is the first thing that the pump fills. He just says to lube up the o ring on the end of the input a bit.

EDIT: call a reputable converter company or have Mike make you a fresh one. if you are going to use cheap parts, they will cost you more in the long run as im sure you are seeing now. a converter is NOT the place to cheap out or to try to find a used one. I hope the one you haev didnt break apart and spew shit into your trans

I paid 300.00 for it,and no thank god,there was no metal in the pan or on the filter..Does anyone need a 9.5 inch paper weight??lol....Talked to Mike tonite,he should be moved in the new shop this weekend..hopefully end of next week I will have a Ridings converter..

no,I knew that when I bought it..I just needed something to get the car back on the road and to get some miles on the trans before the season ended.
