Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
LOL actually i have a TH400 now and plan on doing like a 3.00 or just above that this year... turbos should easily pull me out of the hole..
and im pretty sure his car isnt a race car so he would have no need for that much gear
Guess it's a matter of perspective.
I run a 3.23 gear with a 3-speed TH350 trans and run 3200 RPM at 75 mph.
If I had a 4-speed auto trans, I'd run 4.10s all day long...might even go higher...a short first gear is not necessarily a bad thing.
And we won't even get into the fact that the factory made 4.56 gears with a 3-speed TH400 trans in the early '70s...yeah, they were ordered for one purpose...

I think it is because I take it in and out all the time, the rubber has just stretched out, especially at the bottom where it is really thin. It annoys me more then anything.

4.56's with a 3 spd is also not a highway cruiser... you'd be at like 5k at 70-75 to each their own tho.. ill stick to 3.00 with a 3 spd... still pull down good mpg's with gobbs of power
I went with the medium 3.42s guess ill see how i like it, in the mail along with my yank, now im gonna need some drag radials. Gotta start getn stuff put in got to much to do
leave it just the way it is or buy a rear with 3.42s already. its not worth putting any money into a time bomb that is the 10 bolt.
10 bolts are just fine, just like LT1's it depends what you want. just please don't go around saying this and that is junk when really it serves its purpose and works just fine when done correctly.
This coming from the guy that broke his 10 bolt, get over it. 10 bolts are weak and putting a steeper gear in one is only asking for it to break sooner its a proven fact.

True wether you like it or not, but jsut because you go steeper dont mean it will not last a year could last 5 minutes but could also last 5 years

Car moving quicker from down low=more stress on rear, more stress on rear=higher probability of breakage. Its common sense, yes some break sooner than others, but that also depends how long they've been beat on/had stress on them and tolerances etc.. In GENERAL, Jeff is correct. For someone like me who's car will see very little track time, I'd rather buy 10 ten bolts for 250 a piece than to spend 2500 on a new rear end. (because I know I wont acctually break 10 of them with the little bit that I drive.)

I hear ya man, i understand both views here. My car isnt gona see a ton of track time either mainly roll races and a few digs

In the end, Jeff is right.. I've pulled the front on mine with a 10 bolt(still in the car).. But I won't race anymore till I get a 9" or an S60 under it.. Not worried about street driving(yes I beat on it), but no more hole shots at the track till I have something stronger underneath..

Ill most likely wait till it goes and get a 9" gona hate when the time comes though

Reason for breaking, i allowed the 10bolt to leak without caring.
