    10 bolt GM 3.42s or 3.73s anyone?

  • #2
leave it just the way it is or buy a rear with 3.42s already. its not worth putting any money into a time bomb that is the 10 bolt.
    Doing less with more

I would be benficial to know what you will be doing with the car, trans, (stall if auto), tire size.

But go with 3.73s in less it more a cruiser then get the 3.42, ( few less revs on the highway)

        Agreed...they're virtually identical...

If you have to, take the jump and go 4.10s...

depends on if its a 6 spd or an auto tho.. if its an auto i wouldnt recommend going higher then 3.73's if its a 6 spd then 4.10's all the way

Also depends on if it's a DD or a pleasure vehicle...if it's a pleasure vehicle, I'd go 4.10s either way...

              I would NOT go 4.10's with a 700r4!

The 1st gear is so short. You would be in 2nd gear after 5 feet LOL!!

              I agree with Sean though.

Yeah, more info is needed. But its pretty common knowlage that you use 3.73s in an auto and 4.10s in a 6 speed. Only problem is that the 10 bolt dosent like the smallish 4.10 gear so they dont last long under the stress of launches with sticky tires. Hope this helps, Eric L

exactly my point... 4.10's in a 700r4 or a 4l60e is a terrible idea... sure your gonna be able to spin the tires over but your first gear is way to short with that trans so it makes 1st gear pointless. if its a dd i would suggest staying with 3.42s anyway over 3.73... i had those in my car behind the 383 and the 10 bolt and even then 1st gear was a waste of time.. 4.10's would flat out just suck

Its an auto and gonna have a 4000 yank in it, 4.10s is overkill it would shift to fast through the gears. A4s like 3.73s i was debating either 3.73s or 3.42s for cruisn around goind to car shows and what not. I dont wana stick money in a new rear right nowsoid rather just get a set of gears and let it last until it goes

Well if it helps you decide, I get around 15 MPG with 3:73s A4 3200 stall. That's city/hiway/hotrodding MPGs...lol Strictly hiway and behaving, around 19ish...

C'mon, Sean, I thought you were a racer.

So I suppose that 5.13s are completely out of the question?

Time to move into a new trans if first gear bothers you...

LOL actually i have a TH400 now and plan on doing like a 3.00 or just above that this year... turbos should easily pull me out of the hole..

and im pretty sure his car isnt a race car so he would have no need for that much gear
