I'll be getting in touch with you come spring, I have 3 big trees that are in the way, and have already dropped big branches from high up just missing my house.

hrm, maybe you might know the answer to this question then.... ..my neighbors tree is damn near dead, and theres a massive dead branch that hangs over my house. two summers ago, one of them actually fell on my awning in the backyard. its only a matter of time before a strong wind throws that other branch on top of my house. so, the question is, what can i do, or make him do, in order to get rid of this damn branch that will eventually destroy my property? btw, i wouldnt be so incredibly concerned.. ..but its on the side of the house that sits right over the garage =/

This is a city thing, there is two things you can do but I would confirm them in your city before doing the 1st one! 1st in MOST cities and I know it is in the city I work for and my own if the branch is hanging over onto your property you can trim or have it trimmed off of your property! Meaning you can trim that branch back to your property line. Secondly if the tree is dead then you can call the city and complain, they would have the building official inspect the tree or tree person if they have one (we dont so the building official does it) if they deem it dead then the city will have to force the resident to have it removed. Then it is their problem and not yours, however it may be a while before they actually remove the tree. But those are both of your options.

My Mom might be interested. PM me for details. We were quoted $800 by a local company, I'll go up there and do it myself for that price. . . lol

All depends on the work. It can range from like 50 bucks to thousands to remove a tree. I'd have to look at the work.

Its what I do every day to keep your power on. I am a contract tree trimmer for DTE Energy and trim the trees out of the powerlines, and when a tree takes down the power we get it off the lines. That cotton wood at the trunk it would of taken two of me fingertip to fingertip to reach around the base. I believe my buck strap is a 6 or 7ft and it barely clipped around the tree 15ft off the ground.

As stated the law usually says you can trim the tree up to the property line. Depends on local ordinances though.

Sometimes its fun. Sometimes its not. Like when you are 60ft up over 13,200 volts and your tie in is below you and you're standing on branch thick as your leg and the wind blows. It does get scary.

Hope you have nicer neighbors than I have. My neighbors tree was hers all the time until it fell on my fence. Now she is claiming that it is my tree. She states my property line goes back a few more feet, and her insurance won't cover it because she is denying it's her tree and we'd have to pay for a survey and it's only $350 to have the tree removed. The pine tree has been dead for years. She even has a chain link fence that butts right up to the back of my fence and is put in with cement, but yet now the tree is not hers?

                      Thats always fun.

I trimmed the 40kv line in Yale to Sandusky. My crew was pulling out in the A&W Parking lot like 2 months ago.
