I know in road racing they can be used for three seasons. I don't know the rules with 1/4 mile rules.
From the box they look to be made in July of 2008.

They should have a recert date on them. My g-force harness does.

its not quite that simple. a re-cert involves re-webbing the material and also costs almost as much to get them re-certed as buying new ones FYI

and i dont believe simpson even does re certs anymore. they want you to take off your SFI tag and send it in and get 10% off

belt expiration is complete BS. Fine example of a rule that accomplishes nothing other than getting somebody rich and making street racing more appealing. Mine expired in 03 and I can still use them in autocross!

I agree somewhat, but you have to consider what a track official doing tech has to go through to tech a car. It is pretty much impossible to ask the guy with the clipboard to inspect the thread integrity, search for any possible cuts or signs of having been in an accident along the entire length of each strap, etc. The bi-yearly cost of harnesses would be more than made up for by the $100, 2 hour long tech inspection every time you go to test and tune... lol

Sean and I watched some NO ET guys try and sneak some rickety 8 second pile through tech at Martin this summer with belts that were something like ten years out of cert. Took the official 2 seconds to see that these guys were cutting corners all over the place...

at the end of the day rules are rules just like the laws. you didnt set them but you gotta follow them to be assiociated.

do i think its shit yes i should be able to make the call when my belts are bad just like wearing my seltbelt on the streets.

You have a point, but if a top brand belt like Simpson is only good for 3 years, then why does a factory belt never expire?

head on into a wall at 130 or into a tree at 50 maybe whole different forces working on the material. lets just keep this sensible.
