can you fill me in with the whole screws and tubes deal? I have never done it before. I'd just like to order up some MT ET street 26x10.5x15 and mount them up, would this work on those wheels? I suppose I could go wider yet being 15x10s.... but just the tire and mounting I am concerned with. Thanks!Originally posted by birdie2000 View PostI don't see why not since it has tubes.
Hang on to that engine/trans if this is something that you are seriously considering.sigpic

ET Streets run much narrower than ET Drags. 13.5" wide ET Streets are I believe what is comparable to the 10.5W ET Drag. Either 12.5" or 13.5" ET Streets should work well and fit just fine although a BFH to the wheel tubs may be needed for tires that wide. Weld wheels typically need a little grinding of the rear calipers but it's not that bad and doesn't affect them in the least. An adjustable panhard bar helps because you can perfectly center the rear axle.
Rim screws go through the rims of the wheels and into the bead of the tire to keep the tires from spinning on the wheels when they hook. Ever seen a big white stripe on the rear tires/wheels of a drag car? That's to see how much the tires spin on the wheels during launch.
Here are some pics of how this setup fits. This is with a stock width 12-bolt rear end in the car.

So if you do not want to run screws, simply don't put them in and they won't leak?sigpic

As long as you running inner tubes, yes. If the tire on it now didn't have tubes then it would never hold air.

not true. I refuse to run tubes for the added weight, and I dont screw them to the rim either. There are A LOT of people who do the same. If you dishsoap the inner part of the tire they wont leak, and if you have them installed correctly they wont spin.Originally posted by birdie2000 View PostAs long as you running inner tubes, yes. If you want to run tubes, you MUST run screws as well. If the tire happens to spin on the rim it will break the tube/valve stem and you will have an instant blow out.
I have run my car and slicks like this for a while and have no issues. The dishsoap trick work great

Ok, fair enough, I didn't know you couldn't run without them. The holes are already in the wheels so there would really be no reason not to run the screws anyway.
I know there are plenty of people who don't run tubes/screws. At the time they recommended it to me where I bought the wheels/tires so I went with it.
EDIT: When I said they'd never hold air, I meant because the rims had already been drilled for the screws, thus without tubes they wouldn't hold air.Last edited by birdie2000; May 23rd, 2011, 08:06 AM.

Ok i understand ya now. if you are going to run screws its better off to just run a tube anyway so the air doesnt leak.

Thanks, has a few years worth of dust on it now though, lol. Only has roughly 54,000 miles on it.
