why do you want to get rid of the aluminum driveshaft for a steel one? just curious. glws

ahh.. if they are stronger, why does lt1 have steel and ls1 have aluminum? just easier to turn?

The stock aluminum ls1 drive shafts have been known to break when abused. The guy I bought my new rear end from gave me a custom made 3 inch steel drive shaft with a 1350 u-joints.

I believe balance issues with the steel drive shafts played a bigger role in switching to aluminum on most ls1 cars then the weight.

It might be the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig, but would this be a direct replacement for the driveshaft on a V6, or are the V6 and LS1 shafts different lengths?

ok. mine actually has a dent in it.. i'm not sure how it happened. there are no weird vibraitions in it (even high speeds). hopefully be good for now.
