Wetblaster for sale.

I know this isn't exactly Fbody specific, but as some of you know, I am on my university's Formula Racing Team. We have a wet blaster that's pretty much new for sale. We listed on Craigslist, with a little interest, but nobody wanted to buy it.

I wanted to know if anyone here would like to buy it, or if anyone knows a shop owner or someone who would like to buy it? Our team is pretty small and we have no use for something like this, and add to the fact that our shop is small and this thing is just taking up valuable floor space.

It is a wet blaster, never been used before (maybe once or twice tops). The entire thing is stainless steel and is in perfect shape. I can provide pictures if you want, but not until tomorrow or so. We are currently using it as storage for some parts for our car. We don't want to scrap it because we feel that it would be a waste of a perfectly brand new piece of equipment.

Brand New for one of these is $10,000 (which this one is pretty much), but we are asking $2000 obo. (cash preferably so we don't have to deal with university bureaucracy). Dimensions are 4x4 off the top of my head I believe. I will confirm this tomorrow.

So it's a wet blaster with a cabinet? Any media with it? Does it have it's own pump? Got to be more specific if you want to sell something like this.

Just out of curiosity, is this something that was donated to the university for your team or to you personally?

The unit is 39w x 49d x 73h. It is a Clemco Zero BNP 250 Wetblast cabinet.

This was donated to the team, but we don't have any use for it and its just taking up floor space in our shop. We bought some media with the intention of using it, but that never happened. We just can't afford the upkeep of an item like this with cleaning, new gun nozzles and gloves.

I'll say this again, we really need to get rid of it and have considered scrapping it, although none of us really want to do that to this brand new piece of equipment. We're all engineers and would feel really bad about doing that lol. The entire cabinet is made of stainless steel. I think we have the original instruction manual with it as well. I'd need to find that though, things tend to get lost sometimes in our shop.

It does have its own pump (it runs, we tested that out), and we will include the media we bought for it (its in the 3rd picture, the white bucket inside the cabinet).

Sorry, still a bit confused...isn't "your" shop technically the university's shop through the engineering department? And shouldn't all leftover parts/tools/supplies get passed on to next year's team?

A couple years ago the engineering building at our school got a new addition, and in the new building we got a room. We have our own office, our own shop attached as well as a dyno room and observation room, which we use as an electrical room and engine room. We are getting a dyno soon, so the engine stuff needs to be moved. We do not share our shop with the engineering machine shop like most other schools. It just doesn't make sense in keeping this item since 1. it will never be used and 2. its currently a glorified cabinet.

This won't be used by our future teams since we don't have anything that needs sandblasting. We already offered it to our engineering machine shop, and they didn't want it. We just don't want it taking up space and hope that someone else can use it.

It makes no sense in keeping a piece of equipment that your never going to use, hence why its gotta go. That and since you were on a FSAE team, you know that teams can do a lot more with monetary funds. The money we could get from this would cover the cost of a new diff.

OK, let me re-phrase...once you graduate, who's "shop" is it?

Somehow I'd question if, and or why, they would grandfather/gift all the parts and contents to you, so I'm wondering how you can sell it if it's not yours to sell...that's kinda like saying that "I rent this house, so I'm gonna sell off the copper piping that's inside it"...

I would think that, at the very least, somebody would need some sort of signed-off document from your department head (or higher) that this was kosher...and to whom would the funds be going to?

Really just trying to help you out here...the worst case scenario is that whoever buys it could get dinged for receiving stolen property if the school wanted to make a snit about it, and nobody would want that to happen...

Okay. I am one of the senior members on the team (my 3rd year on the team). If it makes you feel better I am the SAE Treasurer at the moment, although that has nothing to do with me selling this item. I am selling it on behalf of the team. Kinda like when you talk to sponsors. A team member will have one contact with a certain sponsor, and its usually that one guy that deals with that sponsor, at least that is what its like on our team. With one guy in charge of a certain sponsor or transaction, you don't have two or more people contacting the same person, or making appointments in two different places for the team to be at the same time, thats not professional. Understand where I'm going with this? That's what I'm doing here (selling the wetblaster). We have a small team, 6 members total, so we are all a bit stressed with preparing the new car and the new equipment that we will soon be getting.

The University doesn't have an inventory of what we have in our shop. Because of this, we can sell what we need and we know that we are actually getting our money without going through the University's bureaucracy.

What happened in the past with selling something through the University, is the money never got to our account. Higher ups decided our money would be best used elsewhere. We had to fight a long time to get that back. And another time took 1 year for a couple members on the team to get reimbursed for items bought for the team while at competition. Could you image how hard it would be trying to sell something through the university?! So you can see our point in avoiding that route. End of day, team sells unused item, team gets money, sponsors still get their tax write-off, exposure, etc, and everyone is happy.

Our faculty advisor is okay with us selling unused equipment. Really no point in keeping something if your not going to use it. All it would be doing then is taking up space. We have two types of funds on our team. We have a safe where we keep cash (where the money from the wetblaster will end up) and an account for the really big stuff. We keep a ledger of all of our finances, from both cash safe and money in the accounts. We like to keep the cash on hand and use that money for the competition. Last year we went to California, and used some of the cash in the safe as food money for the trip. Its also easier to buy items off craigslist or those last minute runs to the hardware store at 3 am.

As a team we decided that the best option for us would be to sell the sandblaster. Other members have tried to sell it unsuccessfully before (We've been trying to get rid of it for a year already). Its not like I'm the only one on the team thats decided to sell a piece of equipment because I can. We realize it is something we received from a sponsor, but the money we get from selling it would be considered from that sponsor as well. We can do more with monetary funds than a sandblaster that we will never use. We have already done this with a couple other pieces of equipment (again that we would never use, a giant lubricated saw for cutting huge billets of metal and another but forgot what it was) that were donated to us among other items we use everyday from another sponsor which went into buying a backup engine, and everything is fine.

I hope that answers all your questions and quells any thoughts about this not being right. If you have anymore questions, I'll be sure to try to answer them as short as possible now, and not write you a life's story...sorry about that.

haha, not everyone can access it, if they could, then I don't think we would have much after a while.

Pretty much. The lowest we would possibly go would be $1500, but even at 2k, its less than a quarter for what this regularly retails for.
