  • Texas Speed Moser 9 Inch

Since I've ordered pretty much everything through them and had decent luck Im thinking that I'll go with the Moser 9 inch axle for the formula; seems decent priced at 2300 shipped and a couple hundred more to get a few other 'knick-knacks' added to it. Since I consider my self still very new to the f-body world, is there anything I need when ordering or anything that someone wishes they had done when ordering there 9er'? I was thinking 35 spline, 410 gears and spool; would have liked 430's but never going to run a 28 inch tire so don't need to lose top end. Seems like the 410's do best with 26's on the rears. I've heard about going with the drain plug, LCA relocate brackets and some other things but am I missing any key components? Yes I know its overkill but its time for an upgrade and the only reason Im going with the 9 is because I plan on putting the screws to it and know the 9 is the way to go. Let me know what you think and Im all ears. Want to get some ideas before I spend and don't need any mistakes. Help me out guys as in about a month or two this thing will bought and in my garage for the summer swap! Thanks everyone!

It seems to be a good way to go looking at other people's opinions. Rear end is really easy to drop and swap.

im not a big rear end guy but ill keep this at the top for you, people debate the spool (iirc because its not the best on the street? could be wrong) and have you looked into a driveshaft im pretty sure they go hand in hand with rear end swaps and can tack on another $350 for a decent one.

wouldn't do a spool on a daily driver, but that's just me.

LCA relocate brackets are mainly for lowered cars, or so I'm told

I'm curious about the geometric advantages on a stock height car. Maybe a .05 better 60'?

Thinking about it now, if the LCA bracket bolt holes are in an arc pattern it could help with anti-squat. Mine are linear, but the car is dropped and has fully adjustable linkages.

Yeah I thought by doing the brackets for LCA's it just simply changed the angle allowing the car to bite more on hard accelerations but don't quote me. The main thing is the 9 inch but opinions about what works and what doesn't are all welcome. Its by no means a handling car (quite the opposite) and from my understanding I thought that the spool still wasn't a true "locker" where both wheels turned simultaneously (closest thing to a locker without being one of course) but more then a limited slip or true trac style. I've heard many people running then just fine on the street but if Im wrong or could run into problems enlighten me please. Believe me, I baby turns so I don't anticipate issues with the rear hopping or similar struggles. I appreciate the info guys. Can we at least agree that the 410 is going to be my best gear for a 26" tire and a M6? It doesn't see much highway action and gas milage isn't in discussion.

Good choice. I'll be doing a TSP 9" soon as well. Spool'n it with 40 splines tho. Weekend warrior / track car so I don't care.

gear selection is spot on, but if you go to a taller tire you might want more but it all depends. i think what you got picked out is perfect long as you stay with that tire.

very nice, TSP seems to make things easier which is why I went with them in the past. 40's are killer! good luck! Only some track time for me but looking to not run into any problems when I do go!

I've got a 27" tire but I'll be doing a 4.56 gear. It's only 1/8th mile racing down here, lol.

Ok cool. So I guess my thinking isn't in outer-space! I still want to have some fun on the street and don't plan on running a 28" on the street which would almost limit me to going with some type of slick or drag radial set up at the least as my driver since there isn't too many options out there for a street tire. Was going with a basic Zr1 315/35 tire on back for a driver and some type of cheater slick for the weekends on the stockers but thats after I get this stuff straight so a standard 26" is probably where I'm leaning, thus the 410's.

Yeah 4.10's so you don't fall on your face. Mini spools replace the spider gears in an open diff, they act the same as a regular spool. I don't like them...I'm a cornering guy though. If you baby it, especially in the rain, you should be ok. Tire wear might piss you off a bit.

Lockers are selectable, usually used in offroad applications. Powertrax might be what you are looking for??
