Need help putting a value on the 1981 Trans am pace car I am selling. It appears original but not in perfect condition. Its in good shape for the age and runs and drives well. It is white with the black and red interior. T tops. Has all the decals on it still but does have 109k. I want to list it for sale but I really don't know where to start. I have the original window sticker and build sheet. Everything seems correct to the options listed. It does have ac as well. No major rust but a little surface here and there. Thank you so much for any help.

Well, well, well...right in my wheelhouse...lol...
Do you have any other pics of the car? I believe I've seen this for sale online recently. Couple of things that you should consider before selling...
- Make sure there is an "X" in the VIN. No "X" in the VIN, not a pace car. If you want to, shoot me the VIN and data plate numbers and we can de-code those.
- Anyone looking for one of these is going to tell you that the decals are not correct (thus why you need to advertise that there is an "X" in the VIN)
- All of the gauges should have red backlit lighting. They only did this on the pace cars.
- Research, research, research...is it a Norwood or a VanNuys car? They started production of these in Ohio, and swapped over to California right before the race. Yes, there is a clean cut off point for production. Show pics of the VIN and data plate, they confirm everything. This car could NOT be ordered by a dealer and was shipped with the options that were available on the line at the time of production (i.e. mine has no power locks and no power trunk...just one of those allotment days on the line that day).
A pretty rare car as they only made 2000 of these and 200 went to Canada (kilometers listed on the speedo).
If you do not have Pontiac Historical Services documentation for it, get it. Jim Mattison will likely put his own personal little note on the confirmation letter when he sends it to you.
Hard to assess the value based on a single pic. Current values are all over the map as they're just coming into the "antique" arena. Originality and completeness are critical to value for these cars. Big plus if it still has the original smog equipment as that is a one year only unicorn and just as elusive to try to replace. Other one year only items are interior (obviously), both computers, carb, alternator, exhaust manifolds, center tail light cover, and wheels (0.5" wider than 1980). Values will be compromised for this car as 90+% of people do not know that Pontiac made a turbo V8 for two years, so keep the expectations on an even keel.
If you have any questions whatsoever about these, please do not hesitate to shoot me a PM. These cars were another example of the rebel side of Pontiac trying to keep up with the GM corporate Corvette and should be preserved.
Good luck, and again if you have any questions, let me know.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! AN ENGINE THAT SHAKES MY INTERNAL ORGANS LIKE THEY GOT PARKINSON'S! Yep, looks legit...late build for a Norwood car before they swapped over to Van Nuys...Originally posted by Gregs_gsxr View PostDoug is a personal friend of mine, I've known him from back in middle school, he also does my shrink wrap on our boat every winter. If you want to shoot the data plate info over, we can determine when it was built...Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED!
