I think probably the only reason I like these trucks is because the ball joints go bad regularly .... and they pay well.

Otherwise they're a pain to work on. Not a huge fan of the interior, but they're comfortable smooth rides. But holy mother of god are the tires expensive for the 20s that come on an SS

ball joints go bad? I changed all 4 of mine once that was around 180k too, I think they are pretty ease to work on myself. The one thing that goes bad quicker is the rear sway bar end links, but I probably have gotten a good 80k of them, then swap them for new ones...gotta love moog life time warranties.

That's just it, some of the older models I've seen go a good 180K on ball joints, but I've also seen them completely wasted on some with 70K on them ... but you're absolutely right, the rear swaybar links are way more common. And I say they're a pain to work on, as in the 4.2 in general has things in rather inconvenient places. The thermostat for example. Doing a water pump isn't the hardest thing in the world, but that darn fan shroud sure makes for a fun time. I had to replace the upper control arms on a '04 today and ended up having to pull the washer solvent bottle and battery tray just to get the forward bolts out ... so not hard to work on, just inconvenient I suppose. That and the power steering lines rot out above the driver side wheel well ... that's a genius design right there.

Over all they're great trucks, I suppose I'm just not a huge fan. I do tend to giggle like a little school girl when I get to hammer on an SS once in a while though. Gotta clean out after cleaning the fuel injectors after all ...

Try and stay on topic please. Let Jason sell this car. Do not want to clutter his for sale ad.
