  • 2002 Camaro SS Brickyard Convertible

Posting this for a friend of mine at work. It is one of the cars that lapped the track during the driver's parade and had one of the drivers in the back. Joe Nemechek signed the window sticker (he was in it). The decals are all removed, but he has the replacement pieces for everything but the driver's name.

    It has a few mods:
    - Welded subframe connectors.
    - Corsa Cat-back
    - SLP Blackwing lid and filter
    - SLP aftermarket Bilstien package
    - Shiny black Grille (SLP probably?)?

He is at around 65,000 miles. The car only sees good weather. It is immaculate - no stone chips, dings, or interior issues.

He is looking to get $20,000 for this. Post up any questions and if you are serious and want to go look at it I will PM you his number.

    -Geoff

That's pretty curious about that grille insert -- IIRC that's a really cheap TPO plastic that's hard to paint, and had a grain to it. Not sure how they made it glossy.

        GLWS!

He is getting me current pics. I took these back when he bought it new. He got it fro Fox and had to wait for the guy to drive it back from the track.

I think it is an SLP part.

Can't remember his name, but does the current owner have a cane? Think I know the guy.

I don't think that is him. There are a bunch of these around here because the dealers had to order them, have them delivered, then drive them to the race and then back to the dealership where they put them up for sale - and they weren't cheap!

No, I don't think so -- although I've been wrong before. The SLP grilles had the horizontal vane that perfectly bisected the upper and lower halves, and in the center there was was either an SS emblem or a red bow tie -- the bow tie grilles were used on the RS editions that SLP tried to sell. My 2002 has the RS bow tie grille.

Depends on what's actually on the car. If the grille is the same one pictured in the first pic, Kevin is right. If the grille has been changed since the first post, then yes it could be the SLP one but we'd have to see pics to know.

I'm pretty sure the only thing it could be is a sprayed standard grille insert. There is a possibility that it's a different kind of plastic, but (and forgive me if I'm wrong -- I spent some time around plastics and molding processes, but I'm no plastics engineer or anything) depending on the material used, you'd almost have to have a completely different mold to injection mold using a different material, due to differences in expansion rates, temperatures needed for the process, pressures, etc.

The car in the photos clearly has the standard 1998-2002 grille insert, but the finish is puzzling. It's definitely not the bisected, horizontal bar SS or bow tie grille that SLP made.

I don't think you get my point. He said the grille that's on there NOW is the shiney black grille, and that the pictures above are outdated when the current owner originally bought the car -- that he hasn't gotten the updated pictures yet. So yes, the grille in the pictures is definitely the '98-02 and the finish IMHO looks like the standard stock finish. But the grille he's talking about that's on there now in the first post is not the same grille in the pictures that have been posted thus far.

I don't think you're old enough to get this, but the ones who are will appreciate it! Godspeed, Gilda Radner!

                            Took all the stickers off?

                            Seriously?

Why not save some money and buy a regular one in the first place?

He really wanted those wheels - the brickyard package was way cheaper than buying a set of wheels. They are my favorite 4th gen wheel too.
