  • WTT: M6 Trans Am

as you may or may not know. ive been looking into an M6 swap for my 97 T\A. but im starting to think it might be easier to just do a straight up even trade for an M6 T\A. never in a million years would i have thought i would let my baby go. i love this machine and it in my opinion its in very good shape.

What i want: Preferably an LS1 T\A with an M6. comparable miles and or condition. must have leather and T-tops. i will settle for an LT1 car but i would like that to be modified.

What ive got: 1997 Trans am 89,xxx miles ive only had thr car 4,000 miles and its already had two oil changes as well as a coolant flush. LS1 front bumper conversion with WS6 ram air hood T-tops that dont leak, automatic trans shifts great has a B&M trans shift controller which just basically stiffens up the shifting. ive gotten the car repainted all black, its got red accenting on the doors and bumpers. grey leather interior very clean, minus a rip in the drivers seat. Thrush two chamber muffler that sounds deep and controlled not too loud its also got an electronic cutout. Heres a basic list of things ive fixed and other mods i might have forgotten.

    + New Alternator
    + Ebay metal CAI
    + New Serpentine Belt
    + New Trans mount
    + Duralast Gold Brakes
+ 18" chrome MKW wheels wrapped in 275/40 tires.
    + LPE 160 Degree Thermostat.
    + Turn signal fixed
+ Antenna ( replaced with a fixed mast) i think it looks better.
    + Fixed window motor
+ Removed white stripes and all sun damage, sprayed black (has red accenting)
    +Thrush 2 chamber muffler.
+ Updated interior lights with L.E.D's
    + Recovered headliner
    + 3" Electric cutout on stock Y-Pipe Thanks to Sam ( S.Reef)

    It really only needs
+driver side foglight needs to be adjusted, but both shine on the road great.
+Tires and one rim has a very slow leak
+ Hatch weatherstripping (doesnt leak at all)
    + Crack in dash.
+ radio work, the radio in it doesnt get very good reception for some reason.

M6 swap really wouldnt be that hard if you wanted to look into it. I think Aaron (trymeh) actually had some T56's for sale, although I think they may have been LS1 T56's I cant remember.

I agree with Mike. Keep the auto and build on to that. You will wish you did one day lol. Stick cars just arent as fast any way you slice it.

                I can't see how they aren't faster lmao.no offense I've read somewhere on here that a 4l
60e eats up a bigger percentage of power from that crank to the wheels than an m6

Throw a 3600+ torque converter in there and you'll be damn happy.

Lmao! Teach me. I'm a sponge if mmy auto trans had a first gear that I could hold to any rpm then I might be okay. But the smallest gear is 2nd and it just doesn't pull the way I think it should or the way I know a manual car would.

Manual trans cars are fun, but even though a car will dyno less with an automatic, an auto will almost always net a quicker ET if setup properly at the expense of a couple MPH on your time slip (but who cares). If you've already got an auto car, get rid of the trans controller, get gears, get a proper torque converter, and get a dyno tune and it will feel like a completely different car. It's common lore that gears & a converter will usually knock off 0.5-1 second off of the ET of a stock LT1 car.

Which is more or less what I'm looking for in a 300hp muscle car
