Awesome car but the paint kills it. I don't like flamboyant paint jobs like that.

Honestly, I never asked, and it was never discussed. One of those things where you just don't go there.

But I have to imagine that certain uber-desired blocks and short blocks went well into 5-digit territory...even back in the day...

And God bless PHS...and Galen Govier for Mopar...and the Marti reports for Fords...

There are a couple of new upstarts (even for Camaros) that show promise, but those three are the bread-and-butter for true third party authentication of cars...

Let's just say that he worked for GM Powertrain for 30 years and was very passionate and knowledgeable about Vettes...and starting in the early 80s he acquired pretty much every 427 and 454 passenger car block that he could find (even some old NOS blocks that were lying around), and stored them according to date codes.

Not sure how many he had, but it was in the hundreds.

He gets calls like "I need a 1967 L88 that has a May build code"...he checks the inventory, modifies/stamps it as necessary for the VIN (yes, he had the correct dies with the correct font), and PRESTO another L88 is born from a 327 Vette that was undergoing restoration. If he didn't have that specific date for a L88 block, he would tell them "No L88s in that date range, but I do have a 427/435 that would work".

Then you go talk to the guy who can make an appropriate "aged" window sticker, and even the NCRS judges won't question it.
No bid deal, I was just curious because I know a guy VERY well who stamps blocks pretty often for people in all parts of MI.
Look at the guy in sterling heights who has his basement FULL of NOS muscle car parts. People like that are still around.

NCRS is a good club for knowledge but they do not enjoy there cars. We restored a 1966 427 vette for the orginal owner and they tried to tell him his block was not orginal. There are always exceptions to certain rules.

I have a suspicion that there are several "retired" GM guys in SE Michigan who can and will do this.

Twenty years from now, it will probably be a Hot Rod Magazine cover story...
