Rad Rides by Troy does great work! I think they won the riddler award recently.
I assme the reserve is much higher than 125,000. It was restored to troys standards stock, FI real knock offs, it would easily be worth 125,000.

I know another company is making prostreet 1963 bodies in fiberglass/carbon fiber but its obvious they are longer. A family friend of our has a carbon fiber version thats runs 6.8xx in the quarter at a hair over 200 mph

Thanks Fred! To me the weirdest thing about corvettes back then is a coupe was MORE EXPENSIVE than a convert! It was pretty neat about a year ago we had three 1963 Split window vettes, all silver/black, all four speeds, all with FI. But ony one car had real knock off wheels. One of the silver cars is still there along with a white/red and a red/black one

Want to a buy a white/red four speed? The hard part is comming up wth the unique inner and outer window moldings. There were so many differences between early and late 1963s

A few years ago we restored a 1963 coupe that burned in a garage fire. The only body panels that were reused were the floor, firewall, and part of a door. I think almost 600 hours of work went to getting the body back together, but it turned out great!

I remember that car! What a mess! That guy must have had one hell of a connection to that car, because there's no way he'll ever get his money out of it!

He actually had no connection to the car. We bought car for the wheels pretty much and planned on parting the car out. But local guy who owns several car dealerships, wanted a split window and didn't want to see the car scrapped. So we fixed it for him. lol
I forget how much it ended up costing but it wasn't too much over the value of it at the time, a few years ago.

I would much rather have the stock classic. Im not big on buying cars other people have modified, I would rather spend the money to modify a stock vehicle to my exact taste.

And that is part of my rub against old vettes.

There is no verification system to truly know if they are original or not.

I know a guy that has been retired from GM for 12 years or so, and makes twice as much money as he did at GM by restamping blocks and heads for Corvettes.

They are way too easy to fake...and the Corvette community, namely the NCRS, seems to tolerate it

Nope...and I probably shouldn't even tell you in a PM...

Let's just say that he worked for GM Powertrain for 30 years and was very passionate and knowledgeable about Vettes...and starting in the early 80s he acquired pretty much every 427 and 454 passenger car block that he could find (even some old NOS blocks that were lying around), and stored them according to date codes.

Not sure how many he had, but it was in the hundreds.

He gets calls like "I need a 1967 L88 that has a May build code"...he checks the inventory, modifies/stamps it as necessary for the VIN (yes, he had the correct dies with the correct font), and PRESTO another L88 is born from a 327 Vette that was undergoing restoration. If he didn't have that specific date for a L88 block, he would tell them "No L88s in that date range, but I do have a 427/435 that would work".

Then you go talk to the guy who can make an appropriate "aged" window sticker, and even the NCRS judges won't question it.

And this is exactly it. With all of our technology now, its possible to clone anything now. There really is no way to know if some of these cars are factory, or not.
Pictures over the years tell the story.

Im curious, how much do these "I need a xxx motor" cost jeff?

And this is exactly why I don't want some "rare, original car", because who knows if it's really real and original anymore.

I'll just build something that's faster, costs less and I can have fun with!
