I've edited my original post after having more time to think about this. The comments about artificial counts and disrespect just really rubbed me the wrong way.

                      Disappointing

post counts have nothing to do with respect for the site. (as we all have recently seen in the case of one of mods)

respect has to do with how you handle yourself, the help you try to give when needed and how you articulate the thoughts that are worth more indulgence, beyond that this forum and others are meant as a community for fun and commoradory. threads can get down right silly sometimes and that is a good thing - so count'em dont count'em doesnt make a difference. if you want to show an elite status do away with the post count all together and just show the date joined and people will know that you still are an active contributor that supports the community
My comments about the respect factor might have come out wrong. Your part about the join date is definitely part of it, though, but it is only part of it. If I had two people in a thread saying totally opposite recommendations for something and Joe Smith had 1,000 posts but joined 3 months ago and Greg Skip joined a year ago but only had 200 posts, who are you going to usually take into consideration? I mean, obviously, you'd also look at other factors such as age, job, etc, but post count has a lot to do with it.
