I belive theres a time a place for it and in those instances it should not be censored, however in every post is a lil much lol. We should have a section or sections where it would be alright and not censored and if people go there its by choice and they were warned before hand, that way those who cant hold it back have a place and those who would complain bout it dont have to see it all over the site...but on a personal note, i dont care, i admit i swear in text, but never bad enough it would "turn off" someone to a site, if so that shows major inmaturaty to not be able to handle a couple 4 letter words.

It may be overboard and unrealistic, but remember we are censoring the word, not the intended use..

if you want this to work you are gonna have to be fair with all words...

it would be like looking at a post with of someones saying.. Thats Fing awesome, or that looks nice as sh*t! it doesn't matter the use, just that it WAS used..

i still say its all or nothing. there is gray matter..

i also say that you can't please everyone.. do what you want/need, let god sort em out!

i think the censor smiley is more than enough... im sure everyone will know what the person was saying when they read it but still keeps family friendly...

possably maybe even an option to filter language per person in the user control panel? just turn it on every account and if someone doesnt want it filtered they can shut it off... that way its censored from the start and if anyone doesnt want it they can just turn it off..

I'm neutral on this subject.......Even though I don't swear myself......I'm not at all offended when people do swear ......on the other hand....If it does offend people I guess do whats best for the site

            I don't LIKE CENSORSHIP !!!!! Like they say " What next "..
Not that I love vulgarity ,its a thin line of censure I don't like.... ,
If first time people get on here and are offend by a "FEW " bad words
then mabe the should go on the " I ride for Jesus " forms !!!
To me ,its a touchy subject, and a great site like this will never go down because of a few naughty words ....

I can swear pretty easy, but I have to agree with censoring.
Everyone has made some good points, but I do worry about over censoring.
Generally, there's no need for cursing or inappropriate language (or attitudes) at this web site. For the most part, we need to police ourselves into good behavior, to prevent over-censoring.

Censorship sucks! I wish I could insert the piece from Carlos Mencia's show about American's being such pussies about language. I'll shut up before I offend someone.

i definitely didnt take the time to read this entire thread. however heres my input.

i tend to swear alot so it would bother me. however im a mod so i shouldnt, and im also trying to break my habbit of swearing so much so sensoring it would only help that. go for it if you ask me.

Which brings back the point " if you know what Im saying whats the point of censoring it?"

And keeping the site "family friendly"? How many people here actually have the family gather 'round the internet?

However the idea you came up with sounds like a fair compromise to me. Make it a user setting to use censoring or not.

I've been looking for something to allow the user to select censoring on or off, but I haven't been able to find it for this version of vBulletin. If I do, I'll do that. Until then, the censoring that I've put in place will stay.

Just to add my $.02 I think that it should be limited to the big ones, we know what they are. Let the small ones slide. That should keep everyone happy without overly offending anyone.

IDK, I don't set the rules, I was just making a suggestion. But it seems logical to me.
