I am all for freedom of speech, but sometimes things get out of hand. I think that you should do what's "best" for the site. If you think censorship will help you improve then I'm all for it. I have learned to express myself without all the swearing. It can be done. I'd just say to use it sparingly. One thing I hated at FBN was the excessive censorship. Certain words were censored that made little sense. Many times I posted and found that words in a non-offensive context were censored just because they "could" be offensive. There is a gray area, and thats the hard part.

a site i used to go on had it where you could choose if the censor was on or not, but at default it would start out as censoring everything, why couldnt we do that? honestly i dont even notice any swearing on this site, maybe its because i overlook it, but i dont think there is much?

I don't have a problem with it.. I don't use it on the site as I try to respect everyone.. I really don't notice alot of it on the site anyways..

well guys, i don't really mind either way.. however something we may be overlooking is..

if you censor little words like **** **** and ****, then you HAVE to start censoring things like, homosexual slurs, racial slurs.. ect ect, the list goes on and on..

another thing you will have to look at is things like LMAO, ROFFL, and stuff like that, because we are past Y2k a bit, and not many people don't know what they mean.. this is the PUBLIC internet..

i just fear if we start it small, like we are now, it will grow into something much much bigger. and i doubt we want that..

sooner or later the entire site will be " so i ***** *** ** ********** **** *** **** ***** and then we ate at ****** **** ** * ********** *** *******.. know what i mean? you cannot please everybody, no matter how hard you try, please your self and the others around you will become happy.


freedom of speech is freedom of speech. however it has little relevance to this subject, the censorship is not that you can't type it, its that if you do, others will not be able to see it.. As B owns this site, it is for him to decide what is appropriate..

my opinion on this is we need to just pick some words that people don't like such as the eff bomb, and a few vulgar slangs of some things, but thins like $hit and @ss arn;t that bad at all, normal words we use every day

To be honest, I encourage keeping it. We're all adults, we all swear (some more then others). I just feel that swearing it a part of the normal language in America. Especially in a hobby like cars. On forums I try to keep my Fbombs to a min. but I feel there is nothing with hell, ****, ******, or *******

Everyone knows what appropriate language is. I have not so far found any language anyone here has used offensive to me. To censor the site is Brian's choice but where do you draw the line? I hope this doesn't get out of hand.

This is a car enthusiast website and to swear about cars is well... normal.

I haven't been here that long but I have never read anything racist or vulger. Those are the things that are detrimental to the site.

I disagree with the censorship. I agree the reasons for censorship are sound. However, look at the difference between these two sentances.

1. Stupid ****ing car broke again

2. Stupid f@cking car broke again ( pretend the word is actually there)

Now any reasonable intelligent person can look and the first sentence and know that Im swearing and more then likely what the word is. So even though the person has not SEEN the word their brain has pretty much inserted it for them which to me is the same as acutally reading it. So whats the point of censorship?

I have pretty strong opinion about censorship. I believe it a false shield for weak minded people.
