  • Computer Crashed

When I left for work yesterday, the computer was running fine. When I got home, it had turned itself off during the day while I was gone, and wouldn't boot up. Did some trouble shooting, found out it was the power supply that went bad. Bought a new power supply, and it seems as though it took my harddrive with it. Right now i'm using my linux workstation, and i might be on and off with my laptop, but none the less, I'm hampered a little bit on how much I can come on, mostly because I want to devote my time to trying to restore my old computer and save that harddrive. So I might be off for a bit for the next couple days until I can sort through what's going on with my computer. If anyone needs to get ahold of me, feel free to send me a text message or shoot me a call on my cell phone. Later guys. Wish me luck.

yeh, I never really thought to backup.. it's a 120gb hd I think with like 100gb of crap on there, mostly TV shows that I downloaded, movies, and all of my pictures since christmas '04. Worst part is the HD is a Serial ATA connection, which is a newer connector for harddrives and all of my other computers have the regular IDE connection, so that means I either get a SATA to IDE adapter to hook it up to another comp and hope it works, or i just have to troubleshoot through the problem I'm having. Seems like it hangs up when it tries to load a specific file, when I googled it it seems as though this file is the cause for many problems with others. ...greaaaaat. Anyway, time to leave for work. Later guys!

OH - PS - I can't really check my email all that easilly (i have to check through webmail ) so like I said guys, if you need me send it as a text message or a call on the cell.

My laptop has a 60gb hard drive, but since it's such a new computer and I've only had it for a few months, it is still pretty empty. Plus, with the DVD-RW drive, I can backup to DVD-R discs. . . Pretty cool, huh?! I'm full prepared for a crash, I have 2 extra hard drives with Windows XP and Windows 98 SP2 on them both, very low capacity, but they will allow me to survive for a couple of days after a crash. . . Until I can have the old one fixed or replaced. Good luck Meissen, and I hope everything is OK!

the one blessing about things breaking is that it provides an opportunity to upgrade im probably going with a 200 for my new one.

I'm on the laptop now, which will have to do. I've been devoting as much free time as I can to getting my computer up and running. I actually have the laptop in a dock right now with the 2nd of the 2 monitors hooked up to the laptop with an extra keyboard and mouse hooked up to the laptop too... and then my computer has the other monitor and regular wireless mouse and keyboard, so I can sit here and do both at the same time. Wish I had a KVM switch on hand right now, would make the job easier lol.

Anyway, sure sucks. I finally got the harddrive to load as a slave to an IDE drive, I'm running chkdsk on it right now to hopefully see if it fixes any issues. I can access, or atleast it looks like I can access (I haven't tried) all of my files, if so I'll be buying a 100 pack of DVDs (they had 100 DVDs at MicroCenter [14 and John R] for like $30 yesterday!!!! damn that's cheap!) and backing up all my files onto DVDs, reformat the harddrive and then just load the files back on... that is if everything goes smoothly. When we installed WinXP on the 4gb IDE harddrive that I'm currently using as the master for the computer, it had a problem installing drivers for like 10 items, making me think there's some sort of harddrive or further underlying problem with the system causing it to not work properly. Not sure tho. We'll see. I'll be checking in every now and then and reading up on posts, just won't be post whoring as often as I'd like to... but I can't get away from MiFbody.

That micro center is not even a mile away from where i work and thats where i get ALL my stuff! haha. good luck

                      Here are those links! :

Here is one for using WMP format...........http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_f...=665&fi=558098

This is for if you have Itunes..........http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_f...=665&fi=567472

This should work on both of our phones. I don't have a data cable yet so i'm stuck for a while but that should work. I use Itunes and WMP.

how old is the hard drive? if it has around 4 years regular usage under its belt i would just replace it... crashes like you just experienced are usually a preview of coming attractions, youre lucky enough to revive it once.

I ordered a recovery CD from Compaq yesterday through their online chat support that they have, and it was here around 11am!!!! Talk about speedy service, they said it takes 3-4 business days to receive the CD!!! I'm recovering the XP system files right now, as according to Compaq it's just some corrupted system files that's causing the hangup.... not hardware related since I can boot up perfectly fine with other harddrives, just screwed with the one I have. I'm so anxious, it's at 82%! Then I can come on here and postwhore.
