  • Hey Ya'll from NC.

    Hey Ya'll,

I'm just a car junkie from GA/NC. I have an addiction to Fbodies, fast cars and 4wds. I'm planning a trip to the dream cruise and figured I would join here and maybe get to know a few people before the cruise. It's always nice to know people in a new area.

I have a few Fbodies. Mostly 4th gen B4C, but I also love my 3rd gens.

Welcome to the site Jamie! I recognize you. Have you been to the Woodward Dream Cruise before? If not, do you have dates set in stone on when you plan to be in town?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! It'll be a few weeks for pics of the F bodies. They are packed away in the garage at my old house since May. Only thing I have out right now is my CY Vette. I don't mind it getting rained and snowed on. LOL. Would yall like to see pics of it to hold you over?

              Meissen,

Never been to the WDC before and nothing is set in stone. Any tips, info or suggestion are greatly appreciated!

Do you have a bunch of time available to come to town? The day of the Dream Cruise is Saturday, but frankly Woodward is hopping starting August 1st and gets progressively more crowded the closer to the day of the cruise it gets. By Friday evening (Heck if the weather is nice, even Thursday) Woodward is so crowded that it's bumper to bumper traffic crawling by. That said - if you can afford to come to town early in the week I'd definitely recommend it - and I promise you a bunch of us will be out there in the evenings to hang out with. At the absolute least, I'd recommend being there Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Sunday is a nice "afterglow" day to cruise up and down and see everyone packing up.

Well, first off, the WDC really is not a weekend.

It can easily be said that it's a week long ordeal. And it can also be said that, for the locals, it's an August long ordeal.

For the week of the cruise itself, the locals really start it the weekend before. The Saturday before the WDC, things already are starting to get active.

Monday/Tuesday before, out-of-towners start showing up and driving.

Wednesday before is probably the best day to actually "cruise" and see the cars.

Thursday is when GM/Ford/Chrysler bring out some of their toys on the down low and let the employees drive them. Can't speak for Ford or Chrysler, but GM cuts loose a bunch of vehicles from the GM Heritage Center (GM's un-official museum) for employees to drive for the weekend.

Friday is a parking lot, with lot's of "stupid human tricks" occurring...Pontiac is the best place to witness these. Good day to sit and watch.

Saturday is again a parking lot, but there's a lot of very cool iron in that parking lot. You will see everything, and I mean everything, from a 1903 curved dash Olds to the Goodyear blimp and anything in between.

Many of us will be lined up at Square Lake and Woodward on the northwest corner...it's free, and first come, first served. It's out of the congestion that happens to the south, and you may even see some of the cars get exercised...roughly halfway between Pontiac and Birmingham with some open road...

And many of the surrounding communities have their own shows/cruises that coordinate with the WDC.

From my perspective, in early August you'll see a blown pro-street hot rod heading towards Woodward and I go "Yep, it's back together...there's his dry run for the cruise..."

                  Good times.

Please feel free to hit us up with any questions.

Sir, that is an excellent plan.
