I looked up the VIN in our system, but it's too old for the comprehensive listing with vehicle build summary, etc. However, it does have an entry because it was involved in a recall campaign. It had the Air Injector Reactor pump replaced on October 2 of 2000.

First impression, and an observation...

Very unusually optioned car (Z28 vert with the RS package in Quasar Blue)...I don't believe that a RS package was even available on a Z28 that year (thus, likely why Magna installed it)...and it's a very low VIN number at 255.

First guess would be that it was an early production show car of some sort (for GM or Magna...as Decoma likely did the RS body bits).

Very intriguing car...

EDIT: Can you post a pic of the RPO codes from the car? Don't know if that will tell us anything, but what it doesn't tell us could be interesting...

The car is actually a later production vehicle rather than an early car, as the Ste. Therese plant started their numbering at 100001 and went up from there. So, Dave's car should have been the 100,255th F-Body built that year.

As Dave said above, the car was the personal vehicle of the Dealer Principal of Jefferson Chevrolet in Grosse Pointe Park. They kept it at their cottage in Canada. I think the RS pieces were available as a package through GM SPO or whoever was running our accessories program at the time; it's possible that the dealer knew someone from Decoma.

It's also interesting to note that the car was already two years old before the Decoma work was done in March of 1997.

Oh, I'm sure the RS bits were available over the counter...but why send it to Decoma for the modification? Especially if it was a dealer's personal vehicle?

My bad -- Jefferson Chevrolet is in Detroit, not Grosse Pointe Park. Still, the sticker says it was delivered in Grosse Pointe Park... strange.

Jefferson Chevrolet is just a few blocks east of the Ren Cen and is still in business.
