Hello guys my name is Randy. I drive a 1988 Porsche 944 turbo. Its peppy for what it is, I installed a larger turbo and supporting mods. I am pretty happy with the performance but the cost of parts and reliability has driven me to the dark side. Its time to pull out the little 2.5L and install a real engine! A LS1! I would like to modify the LS1 to make 400+rwhp.

Anyway here are a few photos of the car and some videos

Nearly stock 951 vs basic bolt on LS1, you boys will recognize this LS1!

Needless to say I am doing the swap because the LS series engine is the best bang for your buck if you want reliable horsepower. Cheers to one of the best performance engines the world has seen.

What does that car weigh? Should be a real rocket with even a stock LS1 in it.

I had an 87 944, great little cars loved the handling. I think you will be real sorry if you do the swap on that 944. You will be in for an expensive suspension upgrade to carry the extra weight of the ls1. The joy of the porshe is its ability to take corners, not just go straight. But everyone has their own thing. I would look for and engine out of 944 s model 3.0 cc turbo'd they put out 450-600 hp and you still have the correct 50/50 weight distrubution.

The LS1 only weighs 100 lbs more, full dressed.

                        Welcome BTW!

I actually have a very nice set of coilovers that will be installed (600# front and 500# Rear) . The LS1 really isnt to much heavier I think 50-100lbs. Im not worried about the brakes handling the extra weight either, 4 piston Brembo brakes were fitted from the factory. There are many reasons I am parting with the Porsche 2.5L engine. Right now I could easily produce 400-450rwhp if I had a clutch that would hold when I turned up the boost. The other reasons... $1,500 clutch, $1,000 j and e pistons, $1,200 pauter rods, $3,500 engine rebuild, $700 timing belt job, $550 water pump swap.... Etc... I just want a hassle free LS1 making more horsepower reliably.

It was 3050lbs at the drag strip with me, a full tank of gas and porsche parts everywhere in the back. Right now from a roll the 944 puts lengths on a 2008 LS3 Corvette, my goal with the LS1 is to put lengths on a new LS7 Z06. High expectations

Im going to use my stock AOR LSD Porsche Transaxle. Its a beefed up gear box from the factory.
