Hey everyone! I'm from Warren MI. My fiance is really the Firebird enthusiast but I've grown attached (at least to ours LOL).
We have a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It has a 305 TPI motor which was newly installed bout 2 years ago now. We also had the transmission redone this past summer. She is definitely the baby of the family. Currently we are looking at doing some exhaust modifications, but keep getting mixed answers. Considering the money that we have already put into it we don't want to do anything that will end up costing us even more in the long run. So we are trying to get ideas and looking for a good mechanic that knows these cars in the area (I'm tired of people who don't really know what they are talking about
). We are looking to possibly replace the stock headers and the y-pipe. If any of you know of a good mechanic that can give us sound advice PLEASE let me know. THX!! And looking forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome! Make sure you post another thread asking your technical questions. There are alot of guys around here with the knowledge to answer your questions, but they'll never check introductory threads.-Joel

Welcome, Natalie, and enjoy the site!
There are many, MANY, answers to your exhaust question...and all of them will be right, and all of them will be wrong, and all for different reasons.
A couple of suggestions...
1. Budget...what are you looking to spend?
2. Goal...what are you after...Performance? Sound? Bling? Is the car a DD right now? That can play into it as well...
3. Future mods...what is the long term plan? Keep the 5.0? Or go with something else?
By the way, we are REALLY good at spending other people's money...

Welcome to the site. I work at 12 and Van Dyke so I'm sure I'll see your Firebird around town during the summer.

Ok ok ok I get it post pics LOL well here they are. Oh and there's no way we'll be replacing the 305 any time soon. I just put the thing in lol . I did however give him the option of putting a 350 in but he wanted to stick with the 305. We do love working on her and my kids LOVE it. Especially my three year old
And as for the exhaust we are looking more for a performance upgrade sound is just icing. As far as the $$$$ aspect....well...that's never set in stone as far as this car goes.Picture 174.jpgPicture 026.jpgPicture 170.jpgPicture 024.jpg
