                I used Turtle Wax compounds and finished off with Meguiar's polish and wax. Nearly all of the compound work was done by hand, there was so much oxidation that I had to change terry cloths VERY often, You can see a pile in progress in one of the pics.

                Frankly that possibility didn't occur to me. Thanks for the tip, I'll give washers/different bolt length a shot!
