  • New and glad to have found the forum!

My name is Ky, I actually found the forum while researching ways to get my 1987 GTA up and operational.

The car was in storage for 13 years, at the time it was put away it was in good working order with 67K miles on it. Of course it is in need of some TLC now.

I have spend the last three years trying to do doing minor things here and there as time permits.

So far I have done the following:
    1. Replaced the plugs and wires
    2. Replaced the heating and coolng hoses
    3. Drained and changed the cooling fluid
    4. Drained and changed the oil
    Still have to:
    1. Remove the old Code Alarm (has a short in it)
    2. Replace the tires
    3. Maintenance on the brakes and replace the any faulty parts
    4. Bought a new starter and solenoid, just need to install it
    5. Drain and replace trans fluid
    6. Replace the exhaust, provided my budget does not run out....LOL!

My thoughts are that I will contact one of the local shops and see what the estimate would be to do the work and also verify that the engine is in working order. Although I have worked on numerous cars, that was almost 20 years ago. I am out of my comfort zone starting up this old beast and the last think I want to do any unnecessary damage. My goal is to try and have it up and operational by mid of April.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

welcome to the site. I had a jeep that sat for ten years. Changed all the fluids and poured sea foam in the cylinders let it set for a couple days and its been running good ever since. that was two years ago. engine only had 30k miles on it. You may want to check the fuel pump. mine was toast after a few hundred miles.

The grey on that car is stupid sweet! Looks like a nice ride. Always did like those GTAs. Welcome on and good luck gettin' her flyin' again. Shouldn't take too much. Honestly, I might replace all the hoses and flush the motor just to keep it all clean after sitting.
