Fourth gens are still falling, although the LT1 cars are closer to bottoming out. LS1 values are falling faster than Brittney Spears' career.
Actually Jeff....I would disagree with your assesment....3rd gen prices have bottomed out and are back on the rise now....it's been the trend for a couple years now....That's all I can really comment on, cause that is all I really pay attention to.....however it also seems as of late the the first gen prices may have stabilized if not dropped a touch.

Don't depend on NADA or KBB to much, I have a lot full of cars that aren't priced that high. The market is done all around, now it's who will pay what. I'm watching Camaros and Firebirds going thru the auction for some low prices. Keep looking, sounds like someone is trying to get you to pay for their mods.

For the first gen "big dollar" cars, I would agree. But even mid-level and under, it would appear that the values are getting sucked up by where the big dollar cars are at.

I would say cause people r lookin for f-bodys nowadays do to the new one coming out. I bought my T/A last year and my firebird 2 years before that and trans ams werent expencive whe i was lookin at my firebird. Thats a decent deal. Winters the time to buy cause no one wants them right now so theyre hard to sell so they're cheaper come summer that car will go for another grand or so.

that car is way overpriced, i dont care if its super well kept cars depreciate over time and then start appreciating after that, you can find ls1 maros for that price in great shape, why should lt1s also be the same price when they are older and slower?

I have to agree with Derek, I mean it really boils down to what people are willing to pay for the vehicles but you do have to take vehicle age into consideration. Just because one guy is willing to throw down more cash than anyone else for a perfect condition LT1 doesn't mean LT1 vehicles are actually worth that much. You gotta average it all out.

thats the kind of used car salesman approach that will land you a problematic car. If you see LS1s in LT1 price range, thats an immediate red flag [to me] that that LS1 should be avoided.

IMO bottom dollar LS1s dont set the price range for LT1s. If you think you think an LT1 price is high only because you found an LS1 at the same price... that only tells me the LS1 is POS and the LT1 is likely be the better buy of the two.

I see LS1s for sale for 7k-9k all the time, but my reaction to them has never been "oh wow thats in great shape!" with the exception of the ONE black trans am that was sold here a couple months ago. To that i say there are outlier examples in any data. That being said... i am pickier than most. It took me a year to find a car that I even held my attention for more than 2 minutes when i looked at it and i bought it.

                  i spy - a contradiction!

There are people willing to throw down bigger money for exceptional examples of anything, if you can find the right buyer. Just look at how much oddball "junk" you see sell for 50k at barrett jackson. If its not common it can bring money from the right person. Nice third gens and nice LT1s are NOT a dime-a-dozen anymore in fact it seems the only time i ever see them is at shows/gatherings.

I will agree with you, derek, and the original poster than this doesnt effect 90% of the cars out there. But if you want an exceptional vehicle of any variety, dont expect the KBB average price. The only time you see that is when people dont know what they have or they need money fast.

I'm sorry but I would never pay more for the uglier and slower LT1 car. I would probably never pay more than 8K for any LT1 car.

then you simply arent in the market for an exceptional LT1 car, and likely not an exceptional car of any sort. thats perfectly fine.

Well I talked with the bank this morning to see what amount they would be able to loan for the car. They use Nada for their valuation and go by the low retail value, but can use the clean or excellent if a superior approves it. So I will have to check the car over in person and make an assesment after doing so. I guess when I sold my 98 for the same price that I may have priced it a little on the low side since it sold in less than a week.

I would have to agree with Brian, people are getting more interested in F-Bodys and sport cars again.

Just thought I'd throw my .02 in before this thread got any older. It may only be my preference or opinion, but I agree with Joel, as far as what I would pay for an LT1 car. I would not own an LS1 car over an LT1 just for the simple fact that it is an LS1. The '96 SS Camaro was the first 4th gen that caught my eye, and I would still love to have one today. But it would have be the right one and very well maintained, but I would definitely pay more than 7500 for it without a problem. First and foremost would be the maintenance and overall condition. Second would be that it is completely stock. At the time I was looking, there were far more nice WS6 cars than there were nice SS Camaros. Most '96-'97 SS cars were beat and neglected.
