Got some quotes today from Reichert Engines....

As far as the short block work goes:
-bore cylinders .030 over
-press rods&pistons
-install cam bearings
-install soft plugs
-hot tank/flux test
-line bore
-balancing
-grind block for clearance
-Eagle 13005 rotating assembly

I got a price of $1370, which doesn't seem too bad I guess. This would make everything ready to bolt in, and I'll do that back at the house. Cam and heads will be extra of course

This guy was 4th in the nation in top alcohol dragster this year, so I trust he knows what he is doing 8)

dang, 1400 for a rebuild? what else would be necessary to get it up and running? (I don't know jack about engines)

meissen, a good set of heads are about $1k... he's got quite a bit more to spend yet.

If I remember correctly, this Eagle kit comes with forged rods, cast crank.....I'm still going to price out other options, and I've got a good month to go before I send my block into the shop.

This engine will be a 6000RPM max set up, and I'll have plenty of usable power band still. Nexzt time I'll ask him how much it is to go all forged and see what the pricing is...It is definitely cheaper than getting it retail.

Oh, and the kit runs about $660 through the machine shop.....it's about $100 more through Summit, without shipping.

ah, damn was gonna say if I could get a whole engine rebuild for 2000 with it really powered and sh-tuff then I'dw ant my engine to be rebuilt.

that price isn't bad for a rebuild.I spent almost $800 on machine work on my last engine

well for a older 2-piece its cheep you can get full rotating 383 assemblys anywhere from 500-basically stock to 900 for a decent setup.. if your not reving past 6000 i wouldnt be worried about a forged crank it would be nice to have but not really needed.. i try to buy alot of my parts from race teams they always have last year models lying around. and last year sprint car is plenty good enough for a 91..lol i got my cam springs roller lifters crank rods pistons bearings oil pump ran me like 575 bucks would have been more like 900 on up if i bought it dealer but race teams will always ditch there old stuff cheep.. and thats new not used there used stuff with like one race on them you can get for like 50 bucks.. but thats up to you if you trust that or not. then to get the block machined and everything back together im looking at a total of 750 for the complete rebuild... i still have to put it in but for 750.. its a deal a stock 350 will run you over a grand at autozone... but it all depends where you live and how easy you can come by parts..

I turned my block in today to the machine shop....It's a 1 piece seal with 2 bolt mains, btw.....

I went ahead with the Eagle kit with forged rods and Mogul Hyperemetcialwhatsit pistons (flat top). Compression with 76cc chambers is 9.2: 1.

The engine will now officially be a 385 since there is no difference in price for going .040 over, so it was a no brainer, even for me

Well, the machining is finished, and the block is back home......Man I hate carrying that thing around



I got my cam and junk in too. It's a hydraulic roller from Comp.
224/224, .525 lift "magnum" 280 duration at the tappet
110 separation

The GMPP hyd lifters came in as well.....You gotta dig deep in the pockets for this stuff, but it should pay off. At least it's post '87 and doesn't need a retro-fit.
