  • HSR swap

I came across a Holley Stealth Ram intake this summer for cheap and I am currently installing it. Ive run into a couple snags and I am wondering if anyone here has run or is currently running with this intake. It looks like I need a new water neck and upper hose, not sure what one to get or rather what one I need and its looking like the stock fuel lines are not going to be a direct fit either, so Ive been reading.

Should definitely be able to find what youre looking for on TGO. The swap has been done many times over.

Go to your local performance shop like mazzas and get fuel hoses. Anyone should carry a mr gasket water neck that fits the intake. I walked into the back and just picked up a rad hose that looked correct. If you want detailed information like AJ said, TGO has it all. If these small tasks become a challenge, I would suggest against the swap. These are the very minor details. Hopefully the car runs good afterwards, else good luck getting it tuned.

yea tuning on the old PROM chip is going to be the hardest part of the task, specially finding someone who can do the tuning properly

The biggest problem with the HSR is using a MAF setup. Stock heads might not be so bad, but once you get nice heads like AFR or similar you really need to go to a 7730 ECM or aftermarket.

Whats wrong with a MAF setup? GM High Tech mag years ago used an 86 camaro with a 355 on a stock computer and ran a 12.6 just by messing with the timing and fuel pressure. After a custom tune they ran a 12.229.

True potential of the HSR is bottlenecked by the MAF.

HSR with a good set of heads will easily flow more than the MAF is cable of, even descreened. I'll have to check with my friend, Brad, but I think he made over 50 rwhp by swapping his 87 IROC (400, HSR, AFR 195, small cam) going to 7730

Thats a serious gain in power. Though not sure what the gain would be if I switched seeing I have a stock cam and heads for the time being.

If it's under the max flow of the MAF, it can work.

Even then, the MAF table can only read so much. Usually maxes out early, but PE fueling can be dialed in. Brad was pushing over 400 at the wheels IIRC after the ECM swap.
