3rd Gen Digital Dash, good or bad and why.

For all you 3rd gen owners, especially those who had experience with the digital dash option.
Was your experience with it a good one or a bad one.
Did stuff stop working?
I happen to have a project car that has one in it.
Not sure if it even works.

I also have another complete dash assembly with the 145 speedo in it.
Not sure if I should skip the digital and go with the analog or not.
But at the same time, kind of want to save the 145 speedo for my project car.

Though the current 85 MPH speedo is great when you are pulled over and they ask how fast you were going and you say with a straight face.. Oh, I was going 85, at least that is what my speedo read..

So lets here it, what do you think.
And please provide a good reason why.. Not just, .

I can't speak first hand on this, but I did have a buddy of mine with a '90 GTA with the digital dash, and he was constantly chasing gremlins in it.

He eventually ended up replacing his entire wiring harness and sensors and that seemed to fix the problem(s).

Do date, I've not heard too many positives of the digital dash other than it's cool.

I think hes talking about the factory option digital dash... not the knight rider dash lol.

I couldn't go with "white face" I would have to kick my own arse..
But thats just a personal preference. Never liked them for some reason.

Don't know how I feel about the digital though. Kind of have to see it actually working.

Even the stock gray analog's are cooler looking then the digital I think. They just look too monotonous and blend in, the white will go with my pillar gauges, too.

You guys are just too spoiled with technology.

17 years ago, they were really cutting edge.

Even Cavaliers had a digital dash option...not many people ordered it...but it was available...

I do like the factory analog as well, but kind of want to save it for my hobbie car. My hobbie car always gets my best stuff, so I am not putting the digital in that.

Plus.. For the Record.. I would never go all Knight Rider on my car.

Screw it .. I am just going to setup the entire car to run off my laptop and a joy stick.. Thats it..
No silly gas pedals or break pedals..
No gauges, etc.
Just a docking port, laptop and joy stick..
Oh.. and a flat screen..
Then I can have every look I want, just have to reprogram..
Of course, when Windows Blue screens on me, that may be an issue..

I have an extra 145 cluster from an 87 GTA. I dont know if any of the gauges are broke or not, since the motor was out when I got the car, the cluster looks fine though.

Thanks.. But I think I will try the digital first, see if it functions.
I can always swap later.
Plus, I don't know if the cluster is 100% compatible if the dash is wired for a digital.
That is why I pulled the entire Dash from the car with the 145 speedo..

My first can an 89 Cav Z24 had the digital dash. It was cool looking and stuff but sucked if the sun was behind you. Made it real hard to see. I never had any problems with mine though.

bad thing about digital is the fact that you cannot see certain things...like how fast the needle is moving to anticipate shifts. Makes it harder to gauge movements like that.
