The T5 swap is more about knowing what to do to get it done right. It isn't a cheap swap at all unless you really shop around and gamble on a used T5. Both used trans I have purchased needed to be torn apart for new bearings.

Did/Does Edelbrock or Holley make a Quadra-Jet carburetor that's a direct replacement for the OEM Quadra-Jet?

Depends on what angle you look at.

Both make spreadbore carbs, Holley 4175 is said to be a direct replacement but I'm not sure how it will handle the TV cable for the transmission or sensors. Is it really worth it? $400 isn't exactly cheap

He said they're very touchy, go out of adjustment really easily, and for that reason no one wants or knows how to tune them.

What if we tell him that the 5.3 is awesome and that coil packs are more reliable? Will that start an LS swap?

If they were so unreliable, why would GM usethem for so long and put them on tens of millions vehicles?

                      Exactly.

The QuadraJet is pretty much the 350 SBC of the Carb world.

My immediate reaction is no, but with Josh, you never know To be honest, I think his car is great the way it is, I think he should leave it stock. This is the car next to mine at a car show last spring:

He just got the car painted and got new stripes, it's in awesome condition.

Keep it stock. Aftermarket stuff may actually devalue the car at this point.
