Well I want to remove the cat only temporarily, honestly. I too want to keep a cat on there, but the catalyst elements inside the converter housing is all busted up and rattling around and driving me crazy. Plus it can't be good for flow ... being loose in there and potentially creating a blockage at times.
So, I potentially have a set of TPI heads setting waiting for me. I just gotta offer my buddy some money on 'em. I already got his harness and TPI setup. I already have the ECM, harness, plenum, runners, lower manifold, throttle body and all the sensors that are in the plenum. The only problem with the setup is that it needs a trip to the parts washer at work, its missing ALL of its bolts, I think all of the sensors need to be replaced, I need all new hoses, and the harness has a few things snipped off of it. I think like two things.
So my question is can I use my TBI, TBI intake, and Headman 1 5/8" headers and 2 1/4" exhaust and stock TBI fuel pump with TPI heads, ported TB and current computer/sensors/bracketry? Honestly I'm not overly interested in putting a cam in ... sounds like allot of work to pull the whole thing back apart. Would a cam be worth the work? Being the radiator fan, radiator, condenser, all bracketry, crank pulley, harmonic balancer, timing chain and cover ... And then, wouldn't I run into the new cam hitting the freeze plug in the back of the engine? I had to install that plug before I put this engine in the car. I honestly don't know if I put it in too far or not, but it's in just past the lip.
I don't think I'm loosing spark through the wires, but the two straight boots that are on the two wires are starting to melt on the corners. As far as I know, no other wires are melted.
Keep in mind, now that this car runs, I'll have enough room in my garage to build my 383
I have edlebrock performer cam, heads, intake and 750 carb, 1.8 roller rockers (I can't remember at the moment), eagle rotating assembly ... So putting massive amounts of effort into this 305 isn't my top priority at the moment. Plus the car needs a paint job, all new T-Tops seals, trunk seal, undercoating/derusting the underbody, a steering brace, strut tower brace, subframe connectors ... the list goes on forever.
Also my buddy gave me a double roller timing chain setup for a 305. Worth it if I were to do a cam in this 305?
