Correct, I believe the 3rd gen rear is 2" narrower than 4th gen. Thus requiring spacers for 3rd gens to run 4th gen rims, and 4th gens not able to run 3rd gen rims

Ok I just typed out a long post but then the site crashed, here's the condensed version:

Find a rear end out of a thirdgen that has POSI. Look for one out of a IROC, Z28 or even some of the v6 cars came with POSI. Most will have a 3.23 gear some will have a 3.42 gear. If you can find one with a 3.42 gear I say swap it out and see how you like it. I have a 350 with a 5 speed, POSI rear with 3.73 gears in it, I love it. 1st gear is short but I can live with that and the highway RPM's arent that bad. I personally think 4.10's in my setup would be too steep and that I couldnt deal with the RPM's on the highway (I drive my car a lot).

Second option is to make your open diff rear a POSI rear. Although this means more work and even more money you still can do it and you can put whatever gear you want in it. I still think your best option is finding a POSI thirdgen rear and swapping them out.

Thanks Darren your response was what i was lookin for! I dont want a longer 4th gen set up. So When looking for one to swap out what will tell me if it has a posi and 3.42 gears in it? any code or name on it?

check the rpo codes if its original o the car. otherwise sometimes the diff cover says or else you have to jack up the rear and find out manually. i have a set of 3.08s with posi on my z28 and im not sure whats on my 92 but im willing to let them both go if your interested

3.08 Rear didnt come with POSI to my knowledge. Check the RPO codes or there are some simple ways to check while the rear is out of the car as well.

your car...(my old car) has rear disk brakes, posi as far as I remember, as far as ratio I never did run the RPO code, it did well on the freeway so it couldnt have been really high
