simple, buy a 4th gen rear end with better gears and POSI and swap it in, that is if you dont mind the new "look" the car will have some people like it others dont.

4th gen rear is 2 inches wider just FYI

What do you mean by better gears? And would that make the tires stick out more?

yup and your stock irocs would look stupid and have a "mexican low rider" look to it. If you do a 4th gen swap like I did, buy some 4th gen style wheels.

4th gen rears with POSI usually have better gear ratio then the 3rd gens do. You can get a 3.42 gear POSI 4th gen rear, find one from rotor to rotor and one with complete brakes would be awesome.

I think the easiest thing to do is find out what series carrier you have and buy a posi to replace your open diff. You could change gear ratios, but you'll also have to change the speedo gear in the transmission to correct your speedometer.

I have a 95 posi rearend with a 3.73 gear in mine. Also got the rear disk brakes with it. it seriously just bolts right in. I knew about the wide width so I got the 4th gen torque thrust wheels with it. Required me to get 2.5" wide spacers to put on the front to allow them to fit. Also requires a new proportioning valve to get the rear disks to engage correctly. I would price it out rebuilding your current rearend vs buying the 4th gen with the addition of wheels, spacers and proportioning valve, then pick! The forth gen worked very well for me because the car that I got my t56 out of had all these parts too... just made sense. If you don't have one stop shopping, it could get expensive.

I could be possibly looking to sell my rear end shortly here. Its a 95 7.5 10 bolt with factory posi 3:42 gears in. I would just be seeing the axle no brakes and such.

very true ! but I upgraded, yet it didnt cost me much under 160 bucks but I did have some of my own time in it to make it look as good as it does. I do agree with you AJ
