Did you try checking to see if the fan comes on when the A/C is in the max position?
Here a wiring diagram for the 86 Camaro. There are 2 fusiable links that go to that fan also.

If it does work with the A/C on then it might just be a bad Coolant Temp sensor (the 1 wire sensor). sensor.jpg

wire your fan to the ignition and then wire in a kill switch, that is how I had it on my 92 and it worked perfectly. It was always on while the car was running unless I wanted it off. Kill switch was more so used as a safety if I was working on the car and needed the car "on" but wanted the fan off I could have it that way...

We are talking the cooling fan, right? Not the blower motor?

If its the cooling fan then maybe a bad thermostat not telling the fan to turn on? Is the car over heating?

I installed an aftermarket fan controller, I told him to check the fuses and they were good, the only other thing is, the fan motor is spinning the fan, just not enough to work correctly. My brothers car had the same issue, we finally replaced the fan motor and havent had an issue to this day with over heating, he has the same aftermarket fan controller.

I just installed a JET Fan switch into my co-workers car that you guys will probably see on Saturday. Works Fine. No need for an extra switch on the dash.
On at 200F, off at 185F.
The Hypertech unit I purchased failed out of the box, so I swapped it out for a JET.

Hypertech P/N: 4028 - Direct fit, no cutting required.
JET P/N: 60600 - must cut harness and crimp on new connector.
Drain the coolant, thread it in, hook it up and your good.

The Factory temperature for the fan to kick on is around 235F. Way too hot in my opinion.
It's located on the passenger side rear head above the starter and knock sensor.
IMPORTANT - THE COOLING FAN SWITCH IS SEPARATE FROM THE TEMP SENSOR, WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE - One Wire Spade.

To troubleshoot the fan switch -

              1. Unplug the fan temp switch by squeezing both sides of the connector and pull straight back.
With the ignition on, but engine stopped, ground the switch harness center pin to the chassis or rotor with an alligator clip. If the fan comes on, then its the temp switch.

              2. If the fan still does not come on, you can direct wire the fan with 2 gator clips to see if the fan motor is good.
If the fan spins up, check your fuse and relay.

              3. If it does not spin up direct wired, it is your fan motor - and it is replaceable.

no need to trouble shoot anything, the stock switch or temp switch is not in use, I put an aftermarket fan controller in his car (was my old car)

double all the connections Kyle, just to make sure nothing got cut or unpluged

if it works when you hot wired it then just wire it into the Key, simple always on when the car is on...

Um no... That's essentially what you did wiring a aftermarket fan with a switch... My old thirdgen I had wired to the key with a kill switch that could turn the fan on and off at will. Perfectly fine and not ghetto

I would wire it thermostatically and when the A/C is being used. Having to manually control the fan isn't something that I want to monitor nor would I want to hear the fan running when the engine isn't warm enough and its just an additional load to your alternator.

If it is all factory I would find out the problem and keep it original.
