  • Ideas?

Alright well Im going to picking up a mid 70's 350 hopefully friday or saterday from Levi on here. It doesnt have heads, intake or anything like that that I know of. Anyone have any good suggestions about some nice heads, cams and intakes? For the cam i want it to sound good and deep but i dont want to have to keep giving it gas at a stop light and rpm range from 2,000 to atleast 7,000. For the intake I want to run a 750 edlebrock and for the heads I want them breathe pretty good and everything else. Anyone have any good ideas of a good combo to run around 370-380-400 ponys or atleast close to that?

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control.

You want to spin it to 7000?! Yikes...

Your planning on putting a different bottom end in it right?

2000 to 7000 is quite a range. Your not going to see a cam that will give you good power through that entire range. For that kind of power in a street motor your probably going to need a roller cam. As you get up close to 7000rpm and above you start needing much more expensive valvetrain components. Need more info on how you plan on using the motor. Is this going to see much track time?

Paging wasjo. I think his engine(gen 1 sbc) makes power close to that range with a big solid tappet cam and iron heads. 2000-7000 is probably solid roller territory... 3000-7000 or 2000-6000 is easier to achieve.

Well, wouldn't you want to run solid stuff anyways to not have to worry about valve float up that high?

Well plans would be street motor but track like very other week or so. I dont want to put alot into it. I just want it to be in and running solid by June with the HRPT. I no theres probably not going to be racing but ive dynoed my car once before and i wanna get a sheet with the 305(old motor) and new motor (350)

$2000 wont buy to much... Look into used heads, or find some stock heads and have them worked over. You could spend $2000 on bare heads alone... I would just swap in a complete running 350 with a cam and nice exhaust, you would be happy for now...

A running 350 with some stock worked heads, a nice cam, and good exhaust (headers and all) will make you much happier over that 305.
