  • to do or not to do...let me get you ideas

I have a couple options here.

I have an opportunity to pick up a really, really clean roller, no motor or tranny of course and 98% of the interior is there too and pretty clean, very little rust on the rear wheel well, floor plans are solid see it with the carpet out. So with this option I would need to find a motor, tranny and all wiring and computer stuff.

    OR

I look for a very nice complete car, with in the price range of $3800.00 to $8000.00.

I wouldnt mind a project car but finding a motor and trans and all the correct computer and wiring would be the part that would make me a little nervous.

Roller with an lsx swap? Could prob fit it in that 8k budget if the roller isnt outrageously expensive..

mhm what type of roller, details?

For $8K you can get a really nice CLEAN third gen or you could get a solid project to build. Or like it was posted above you could do a LS in a thirdgen for $8k or a little more.

need more details on the roller. Sometimes finding the little things can add up quickly and having a wiring harness, k-member, misc mounts and bolts are nice to have to start with.

The rust level would be my determining factor. These cars rust in very hidden places long before the rust is bad enough to show.

Ive seen the car with out the interior. floor pans are clean, trunk area is clean, rear wheel wells have 2 or 3 quarter size or smaller bubbles, front fenders are goo and doors are clean inside and out. I have fixed way worse rust then this, under carriage is very clean as well. T-top area is also clean, hatch area clean too, will come with a different but stock dash and IP. Roller would priced around 1500.00 It comes with new t-top and door rubbers, stock wheels with some decent rubber still on them. Stock K member would be there. Rear end and drive shaft will also come with the car. Really all it would need is an motor and trans. I wouldnt mind finding an lt or ls1 and trans combo and drop that in. But again all the wiring is probably what would worry me. I know I could do it, but is it really a huge hassle? I have been reading all the engine swaps posts.... so Im just stuck in the middle on what to do. oh boy!!!

I think it depends on what you want to do... Either get a car and work on it and make it your own or get a really nice one, drive it, then next winter or something save up the pennies and build it up. Me id choose the complete car and built it up during winters. IMO

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control.

ok, just to let everyone know, Im sure no one cares haha, but maybe some, who would be in the market to sell come spring, will remember this thread. So anyway the girlfriend and I have decided to save some more green paper and look for a really really clean complete car. Probably would look for 3rd gens in the neighborhood of 3k to 8k. I have been reading alot of great stories that some people on TGO have been seeing on CL in the southern states. If I cant find something local then I might be taking a long weekend to look and check out some cars in the southern states.

thanks for all the ideas and opinions
