and i already know how bad 305s suck i dont need to keep hearing how bad they are. the only reason im putting a little bit of money in the 305 is because i dont feel like spending $300+ on a 350 with unknown abuse and mileage. i just want the 305 to run good until i can find a motor for my truck. in the time being im going to do CHEAP upgrades just so i dont goto the cruise and get beat by stock 305 cars.
i dont plan on spending more then $150 on the motor.92 Chevy Camaro RS 25th anniversary-dream car-stock-slow-needs work

heads and cam for less than $150??Originally posted by FER92RS View Postand i already know how bad 305s suck i dont need to keep hearing how bad they are. the only reason im putting a little bit of money in the 305 is because i dont feel like spending $300+ on a 350 with unknown abuse and mileage. i just want the 305 to run good until i can find a motor for my truck. in the time being im going to do CHEAP upgrades just so i dont goto the cruise and get beat by stock 305 cars.

Even if you get both the heads and cam for less than a hundred dollars, you're going to learn quickly that that will be a fraction of your cost. You'll need all new fluids for one thing, numerous gaskets, new head bolts, and I can almost guarantee something wont line up like a cam dowel pin or an emission item on the heads. Or you find the timing chain has slack in it, or the lifters are worn out, or the water pump needs replacing. Things dont just go back together and work perfectly on a high mileage car. Do you have all the tools you'll need like a torque wrench and pulley puller? Theres more money if you dont. Now suddenly its a huge custom project and youre spending multiple weeks and hundreds of dollars for 30 horsepower that wont seem like its anything after all that grief.
Not trying to be a naysayer but I am being realistic. I originally budgetted a project like this on my car at $1500 and i ended up spending $2300.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; October 20th, 2010, 08:51 AM.-Joel

$150 budget you better buy some used Headers, and maybe a used cat back. Remember once you change the Heads/Cam even to a LT1 Cam you will need a TUNE and a $600 + to get a dyno tune on the car once you change those things, or you can try the online chips but those are $150 a piece as well. You better stop by and rethink this, headers, exhaust is your budget.
OH BTW my car is pretty much stock with some things removed and a catback with the manifolds, I'll race ya 305/305 and you'll see $150 in mods wont change a damn thing. Only thing I have going for me is mines a 5 speed.sigpic

Joel is not lying. Im on a "budget" build right now with the Trans Am and I've spent wwwwaaaaayyyyyy more than intended to. Nickel and dimes add up real quick when it comes modifying.
So I learned the hard way at the worst time because I fell behind on some bills. So now I'm doing it the smart way I guess you can put it..saving saving saving untill I can do it right the next time. That way the HP/$ ratio isn't gradually effected.

Choose your weapon of horse power carefully grass hopper, lol. Ya see, I figure this way, you can put down both windows and get DOUBLE the gain from the paddle mod. Its like running two bottles of nitrous. Ok, maybe it wouldnt work, but it would freak the shit out of people during an inpromtu street race. Hold on, let me get my paddle....................so i can SPANK YA. Eric LLast edited by prorac1; October 20th, 2010, 09:54 AM.

IMO I wouldn't trust helicoiled rocker arm studs, especially with dual springs.Originally posted by squareandcompass View Post
And $150 isn't even enough to get you an e-cutout. Maybe some cheap old rusted headers and a cheap Y-pipe...
