Face it dude, 305 = slow period. Its not all about being fast, I love my car, its a 305 and a 5 speed, its fun to drive and drives nice. I love cruising in my car windows down music up with a nice exhaust tone. Nuff said, you want fast ditch the 305 thats the only way.

However, in the time being pick up some headers, lose the cats cut emissions. That will help a little but will help. Start ripping shit out you dont need!

Like I said, get a used 4.10 rearend and an elcheapo used converter and the car will FEEL TONS quicker. For street racing its all about the dig. Ive beaten more supposed 11 sec cars with my high 12 sec Camaro than you can shake a stick at. I whoop your ass up to 60 mph, and you cant reel me in and catch me till about 85 mph. Any faster than that and its called an "I cant hook so I have to race to over 150 mph loser fly by". Its all about the hook, traction. Your young, let me give you a little advice. Dont try to follow your "friends" , be a trend setter, make your own road. If they want to race to 150 mph in Wayne county or surrounding areas let em. Its suicide, and they WILL take your car. You build a well thought out car, with GREAT suspension parts (heck, most of mine were even homemade, torque arm, control arms, etc) and some sticky tires and you will kick there ass to 85 so bad they will HAVE TO do 150 just to make up the differance. You do what you want, but between the 5 or 6 of us giving you advice on this board we probably have over 100 years of ..................................um.............. ...................."street" experience, lol. Dont take this the wrong way dude. Take it from someone thats been doing this for almost 20 years. Heck, the Valiant in my sig was my first car and was bought the year you were born, now I feel old. Cant really get power from a 305 unless you dump $$$$ in. Your best bet is saving like I said And when you have enough, drop in a LT1,LS1 and modify that. You will be MUCH happier with that outcome

imma turbo my 305!!! lol jk. i understand what eric is saying. and i understand what yoshi was saying too. i might just do what eric said and change rear gear and add a cheapo converter, get some good suspension parts and sticky tires. im thinking about buying this edelbrock torker 2 intake and msd pro billet distibutor and blaster 2 coil for $100. i can re use them parts on the 350 if i buy a stock 350.
my buddy said he might sell me his stock 350 from a sting ray corvette. should i buy it?

Not all of it is hard, its just if this is a "first time" big project for you. Usually you would want some help along the way incase you run into any problems you wont be stuck for days without answers...If not..go ahead and tackle it. WMCC James has a thirdgen iroc and I believe when he dropped in the LS1 and did a six speed also.. Why do you want a manual?

Check my Ryans quote in my signature..it speaks the truth

Manuals are a lot more fun to drive on a daily basis, and simply people just like them. I would never own a automatic "sports" car just doesnt seem fun to me. As well as your (ryan's) quote isnt always correct, plenty manuals win races and a real MAN drives a stick. Nuff said

if i was going serious like bracket racing with my camaro then i would keep the auto. autos are way more cosistant on the launch and the shifts. no chance you can miss a shift in an automatic. they shift almost perfect everytime. the only reason why i would want a manual is to make my camaro more fun to drive.

i probably wont do it since i dont have lots of money. i already have a B&M ratchet shifter in it. all i need is a shift kit and a stall converter and ill be set.

whats your guys opinion on mini spool, full spool, and welded rear end?

T-5's can be had for cheap but are not very strong if you are going to do a manual swap save up and get a T56 or find someone who can build a T5 right, it can be done tho.

none, get a decent posi unit. Spools are for racecars and welded spider gears will break and are hack work.

Just get a 4th gen 10 bolt, disc brakes and POSI. Or try to find a thirdgen Disc/Posi setup. If you dont car if they are disc or drum then you can find a thirdgen Posi pretty easy.
