I have driven a few vehicles with failing upstream o2 sensors and they didn't run rough. This is because instead of the computer relying on that o2 sensor to tell it what to do, it falls back on what is a called a basic fuel map. This is a map that tells it how much fuel to give based on throttle position instead of what it is actually doing. You will get terrible gas mileage, but it will still run okay with a bad o2. Now, what did I tell you before about the IAC? I said that a car with a bad one started to choke and died on me at 50mph. After knowing that this could be your problem, and knowing that it could die on you at speed, you went on the highway with it? That was a very poor decision. I know you have another vehicle, quit driving the bird till you get it fixed!

    how much is the IAC?

Easy killer, it was a joke...note the "" after...but anyway. I think I'm going to buy one after work today and attempt to do it myself. It's only like $35, score!

        Thank you for the help!

Whatever, I just don't take like people acting like that when I'm trying to help them. It would seem they would be nothing but grateful. But i'm done, I don't want to argue on here. I hope that is whats wrong with the bird.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I often forget that people might not get my personality over the computer. I joke a lot.

I'm no expert, but having installed a standalone MFI system on my car I found out what parts affect what through a lot of trial and error. My initial thought was IAC motor or vacuum leak as well, but stalling at speed doesn't seem to fit well for either. Neither have a large impact at higher engine/vehicle speed. The stop light surges are likely the IAC overcompensating for something. A vacuum leak, faulty TPS voltage, sticking EGR....Does the car have A/C? Is it on when these symptoms occur?

well, I got a new IAC and broke a bolt, kyle broke a bolt on the TPS last time. So i had to take off the whole throttle body and junk just to be able to drill out the holes. Kyle's doing that tomorrow and we'll put it back together. So we'll see tomorrow if that does the trick.

The AC is not on when this happens, and the TPS is good. The only thing- with that broken bolt, the TPS wasn't held on all the way. Could that do it?

If the one bolt wasn't tight. My Camaro's TPS was held on by one screw, I just had it tight - didn't budge.

                    Get this...

A broken or loose TPS can cause intermittent bursts of fuel from the injector and an unstable idle because the EMC thinks the throttle is moving. The TPS is fine, but one of the bolts broke when Kyle replaced my fuel injector. It was probably loose. So maybe I didn't need the IAC afterall!

hrm, that very well might be the issue. The only flaw that I can see in that logic is that the only thing it would do is give you more fuel. Not less, which is the cause of you stalling. Unless it was giving SO MUCH fuel that it was completly flooding it. When it stalled did it ever smell like gas really badly, or have a hard time restarting?

                        Nope.

Well either way, I'm in the process of replaceing the IAC, so let's hope that fixes it.

Bolts are fixed, TPS wasn't moving from what I could tell but it has 2 bolts in it now.

The car idles better so now we have to wait for for Robin to post her results

Soooo.... It's still doing it. Replacing the IAC didn't do shit. I'm seriously thinking TPS, cuz it does it when the pedal is in about the same spot every time. Kyle's gonna check the voltage again, but I think I should just replace that regardless!

Yeah, if it has a dead spot, you should be able to see it on a volage sweep...
